  1. I vote to keep the states and simply export the “blue people” for awhile.  A few tours of coolie duty in Manchuria or along the Hwang Ho should bring most of them to their senses.

    wink

  3. OCM is upset because someone tried to limit his protected “right” of free speech.

It will be the USA and China as the world’s super powers in the future.  Some suggest that the Chinese’s $600 billion invested in America is too controlling.  That’s only 1/3 of America’s annual health care expenses of 1.8 trillion.  In other words, it’s nothing.

Let me be more clear.  It will be America number ONE economic power in the world and then way, way down there, will be those communists as number 2, who don’t even have workman’s comp on their workers, they’re pathetic.

Somewhere right now in China they are reverse engineering a Maytag washing machine, those cheaters.

  4. Z,

I read the same article you did about China and Maytag.  Maybe you read TIME’s big issue on China.  Lots of hoo-ha about how wonderful things are going for China, and then, without fail, at the end of each article was the notation that China’s human rights issues will keep it from ever becoming the super-power it is trying to be.

  5. Oh, Cat,

I’m glad you explained your ‘thought to asshole’.  I thought at first you were bent way over in your chair doing some PT.  I was wondering… you know, because anyone who would bend over and chat with their own arsehole would have to be on drugs or something.

  6. Phoenix:

I heard that the Japanese were jumping into China with both feet to make itty bitty tiny little cars to sell in the EU in large Chinese factories.  The Japanese/Chinese factories are much bigger than the US/Chinese auto making factories.

These Chinese cars won’t be sold in America.  They are meant for people who are paying $10 a gal. for gas.

  7. OCM:  There is a Zappa song that you might be interested in it goes:

    That’s right
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole
    Yes, yes
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole
    That’s right
You’re an asshole, you’re an asshole

Now you been to the grape ‘n’ you been to the chest
‘n’ now i think you know what you are: you’re an asshole

You say you can’t live with what you been through
Well, ladies you can be an asshole too
You might pretend you ain’t got one on the bottom of you,
    But don’t fool yerself girl
    It’s lookin’ at you
    Don’t fool yerself girl
    It’s winkin’ at you
    Don’t fool yerself girl
    It’s blinkin’ at you
    That’s why i say
I’m gonna ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
    Corn hole
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
    Fist fuck
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
    Wrist-watch; crisco
Ram it, ram it, ram it
Ram it up yer poop chute
    Pud!

    Don’t fool yerself, girl
It’s goin’ right up yer poop chute
    Don’t fool yerself, girl
It’s goin’ right up yer poop chute
    (etc., repeats)

    Aw, i knew you’d be surprised…

Investing in China: Our parent company is huge and they bee-lined it to China.  They want all Chinese sporting one of their VISA cards.

They have money and they say the answer is yes.

(But don’t listen to everything that Zappa says) cool smile  peace  tune

  8. Z,

There was a long article about the car business in China.  They are working REALLY hard to make cars that don’t use gas, and they need to.  There was a map with the smog factors over all the cities in China, and it is a BIG deal.  They’ll pass us in this scientific endeavor.  The thing noted in that article was how China’s smog is actually affecting the entire world.  Pretty creepy stuff.

  9. Seems to me that there’s a saying: When you borrow a million bucks the bank owns you, when you borrow a billion bucks you own the bank.

Oh no, they don’t need to reduce smog, the Kyoto accords gave them and India a pass on that, while ignoring the fact that they’re the world’s most prolific polluters.

  10. Stin, I must admit that sometimes I wonder what would have happened, had we stood aside in 1937-41 and let Imperial Japan have its way with China.

  11. Stin,

There was much commentary about the Kyoto accords.  What a joke.

  12. Tann,

I thought that we did pretty much stand aside. Oh, there were embargoes and such but we mostly stood aside as the Japanese fulfilled their plan of the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere”.

We had some forces in China but we didn’t interfere with them and on one occasion, when they shot up and sank one of our gunboats, USS Panay, their apology and restitution was accepted.

I don’t think we were in any position to do anything else. The Brits had the pacifist appeaser Neville “Peace in our time” Chamberlain as PM at the time and while they had Naval assets there they were no match for the Japanese Navy.

The League of Nations was also proving itself the toothless debating society that it was. No, the Japanese were determined to rule as much of the world as they could. It was going to take force of arms to stop them and we weren’t ready to do that, politically or militarilly.

Hell, when we did finally mobilize, soldiers trained with brooms for rifles and pickup trucks as tanks. The only things we had to head them off was diplomacy and trade sanctions and neither was effective. Indeed the santions were their excuse for attacking us.

  13. All of this is true enough, Stin, I agree.  I was mostly wondering what would have happened if we had not put any embargoes in place (the oil embargo actually precipitated the decisions that led to Pearl Harbor), and just let the two sides go on wearing each other down.  I doubt that either could have won, but neither would have given up.  Strange prospects maybe.  Who can say?

    wink
