  1. I agree.  A “public school” is largely a contradiction in terms these days, and the NEA is VERY largely responsible.

The best thing that can happen on behalf of education is to scrap the NEA.  The next best thing is to scrap our present diseducation system itself, and rebuild it from scratch along military academy lines.

These are Augean stables to clean up, granted, but if the work is not done, many unfortunates will be paying the price far into the future.

  2. I was tormented-including at least one case of sexual harrassment- horribly in school. What would have helped me is the authorities PUNISHING those that made my life hell.
DISCIPLINE not singing “kumbyaa” is what ends bullying.

  3. The beautiful Michelle Malkin ends with:

Just what we need to combat throat-slitting, suicide plane-flying Islamists: young eunuchs swaying to moldy old folk music while their “Peace Place” signs flap in the wind.

My sister-in-law looks like Michelle.  She also has a way with words.

Except she calls hamburger, “grounded beef”.

  4. Teaching kids non-violent methods to deal with something that is inherently violent… Yeah, like THAT’LL work.  *snrks*

  5. Yeah, man.  JUDO needs to be a required class for K-12 all grades.

Stupid bullshit - did anyone look at the links that Michelle provided in that ‘post?  All this dumb stuff like “don’t laugh at me” “no ridicule zone” Oh my God.  I though it was bad when I ATTENDED public school back in the 80’s (graduated HS in 1989).

I have a kid who’s 2 years old now. I really hope that I can afford private school.  At least he’s going to Sunday school and be involved in church and stuff.

Posted by ztucka    United States   06/30/2005  at  08:31 AM

  6. OCM: most Sunday Schools teach love and tolerance as Jesus commanded it. However, they do not teach children to let murderers and killers run all over us and wipe us off the face of the Earth, as these educators are doing.

Turning the other cheek is something we all can shoot for (pardon the symbolism there) but in an imperfect world, the only thing we can do is try to be kind and considerate but if that doesn’t work, a .45 caliber between the eyes of a suicide bomber is the next best thing.

I’m sure your children understand this as do mine. The “perfect world” you wish for is still a long way off, my friend. Until we get there, we need to remain strong and resolute in the face of our enemies and their ideology of murder, rape and suppression or their “morals” will become the norm and out attempts to achieve a more civilized society will have failed. If that happens, we’ll all eventually slide back to nothing more than monkeys throwing rocks at each other.

  7. This fits in well with an ad I heard on the radio for a book called “Therapy Nation” which encompasses just this very subject of the pussification of our young.

The NEA, and their Lunatic Liberal Losers want it this way:

Instead of “Tug of War” it is called “Tug of Peace”, teachers don’t use red pens to correct students’ tests and homework, because red is a “stressful” color.  Dodge Ball is strictly forbidden, it is too “traumatic”.  and, don’t keep score in “sports” events, after all, does winning or losing really mean anything these days.

If the dickhead  peace  monkey  pacifier  Liberidiots have their way, this nation will rapidly go down the toilet

    finger them all....

  8. What’s the matter, Cat ?  Can’t keep from sinking, yourself ?  Just move your arms and legs in regular motion and be sure to keep your mouth shut so you won’t inhale any water if you sink like a stoned pothead.  Hmmmm… keeping your mouth shut without any water around sounds like a good idea.

  10. I witnessed this PC stuff first-hand for many years.  One of the side effects of it that is not often noted is what it does to teachers.  Teachers walk on pins and needles for fear some panty-waist diva will get his feelings hurt and complain to the principals or to his parents who come roaring in for a fight.  It is so self-defeating that I cannot describe it.  Public schools are scared to death of parents and idiot lawsuits that the teachers tend to get the blame.  I’ve seen the best teachers around leave the system just for that reason.

As for sending your child to private school, I don’t know that that is the answer.  Parents who send their kids to private schools are paying big bucks to do so.  They also tend to be a bit self-righteous and to demand more bang for their bucks.  As well, they are also frequently the type who insist on politically correct behavior, and many are more into those demands than the average public school parent.

I will say this:  It is the teacher who makes the classroom.  A good one will work around the PC crap in favor of the subject he or she teaches.  That is what you want.  You can find those good teachers in public schools and private schools.  The key as a parent is to stay tuned and to be active in what goes on in the classroom.  Most teachers hate the PC stuff… That is, most teachers with some experience and a realistic outlook on life.

Anyway, three cheers for teachers who do their best despite the odds against them.

  13. I know what you’re saying.  At my youngest’s elementary school they don’t do the Pledge of Allegience anymore.  Now they do the “Peace Pledge” every morning.....

“I do hereby solemnly swear never to hurt anyone’s feelings, etc”

Teaching kids to get along and settle their differences calmly is great, but come on!

  14. By the way OCM, been watching this blog for quite awhile and I admire the way you hang in there and argue withour resorting to ridiculousness (is that a word?).  This one doesn’t seem to degenerate (too much wink into the name calling and idiocy you see on most blogs.

  15. This is one reason my kid goes to a private school. Even though shes a girl ,I won’t stand for the crap that passes for an education nowdays in a public school and I know she’s getting far more benefit from it then anything they can provide.

Posted by Archangel    United States   06/30/2005  at  04:16 PM

  16. Mike,

This blog does not degenerate into name-calling and idiocy because our host will not allow it.  OCM has been banned a few times.  He has done more than name-calling these last few days.  Perhaps you missed it.  To give the other members credit, we don’t need the Captain’s rules to keep us in order as we are a decent bunch and know how to deal with a fool without puerile behavior of our own when it becomes necessary.

  18. Cat,

The only kind of change this ‘mamby pamby’ stuff going on in schools these days is going to bring about is several generations of simpletons who are programmed to go running to Mama at the slightest, imagined insult.  Just think what fine soldiers they’ll make if we ever have to go to war again.  oooh, ow, oowee, MA MA ! !  VICTIM status will rule the day.  God help us.

  21. Tanny,

Have no fear.  You have most definately raised your status hereon......  oh, my..  have you ever.  You have made my day over and over of late....

    I bow to you.. you gentleman, you.  :}

  23. I hate to break into the mutual admiration fest here, but..............

I have to quote one of my favorite humorists.

“Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.” - H.L. Mencken

The schools are teaching that it is not okay to defend oneself. Sad times indeed. Wit and problem solving skills are being substituted these days for “self esteem” and “equality of outcome” agendas. Garbage and tripe!

    And finally-

    “Avoid quiet and passive persons
Unless you are in need of sleep.”

    +

“Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.”

    - From ‘The Deteriorata’ (Origins unknown)

Posted by Robohobo    United States   06/30/2005  at  07:13 PM

  24. Robo, I agree with you completely.  And I will add a little humor of my own.  If you want “equality of outcome,” go to a graveyard.

  26. Ztucka-
The only hope for you to have your son be the kind of boy -and later on, man-that you wnat him to be is to home-school him, or send him to a military school when he’s old enough.  I’m not even seeing anyone, but the shit that’s going on in public schools is already driving me to home-school any children I may have.
