  1. Yep, the old ‘conduct unbecoming’ clause in the UCMJ.  Got something that doesn’t quite fit anything else?  Try them under that one.

  2. Arrrggghhhh!

Never had a Seargent like that.  I’ve always respected the NCO Corps.  Now, more than ever.

  3. Man oh man oh man. She makes standing at attention really easy!

  4. Holding the magazine, she doesn’t look the least bit unhappy about it.
    Bravo!

  5. Thank you , Sir. I knew you would come thru for us!!!! playboy

  6. The fun ran out of the AF when they closed Clark AB years ago.

Not the least bit surprised by the AF’s reaction to this attractive SSgt’s right to free expression.

Instead of giving her shit, they should be painting her tail on a tail of an F15.

Posted by Kuso JiJi    Japan   01/13/2007  at  01:08 AM

  7. I’m sorry I have to disagree here.  Though she is a beautiful woman (though the tats on the legs don’t do anything for me), she had a choice.  Uphold her responsibilities that she swore to the United States Air Force or pose naked for Playboy.

She could do one or the other.  Not both.  She should have resigned from the Air Force and posed naked or kept her clothes on.

Additionally, she has two children.  She is posing naked.  Nobody sees a moral issue here?

Really, every guy she commands or serves under, will have a copy of that Playboy.  Does she really think she could effectively command or serve without getting sexually harassed?

If she needed the money, she should have resigned and pursued the Playboy angle.  She obviously has the body for it.

Posted by Grumpyguy    United States   01/13/2007  at  02:29 AM

  8. Grumpy, you have a valid argument and I agree with you in principle. Unfortunately, the Air Force finds it much easier to discipline and cut short a career of a lowly SSGT but looks the other way or covers up when morality and even criminal behaviour comes into play for its higher ranking members.

Posted by Kuso JiJi    Japan   01/13/2007  at  04:25 AM

  9. While I wonder how the picture in the entry story and those in the playboy are the same person (please let me have those stylists and airbrushers) the problem enters with the >Michelle Manhart is photographed in uniform yelling and holding weapons under the headline “Tough Love.”< Posing in uniform in Playboy (and many other magazines without prior written approval) is against the regulations. That is the problem - being a mother, I don’t know how she had one, much less two kids and not have a stretch mark or two thousand.

And yes grympyguy, there are moral issues and a very good point as to how anyone superior or inferior of rank will ever take her seriously again.

Posted by wardmama4    United States   01/13/2007  at  10:22 AM

  10. Sorry for all you guys that are panting over her, but I gotta agree with grumpyguy and wardmama4 on this one. She’s pretty and all, but the posing in uniform smacks against regulation.

She doesn’t think she did anything wrong? She really thinks that? To me that explains why after 12 yrs in, she’s still a staff seargant. Yeah that sounds mean, but that’s just my opinion on the matter.

(And excuse me for being crass, but dammit if you’re gonna shave down there just get rid of all of it, for crying out loud. That little splotch down there looks ridiculous IMO)

Posted by Severa    United States   01/13/2007  at  11:24 AM

  11. Wardmama, severa and grumpyguy...thank you. For those women (myself included) who wore that uniform and fought against so many sexual stereotypes to gain the respect to be taken seriously in the AF this is a slap in the face. In uniform, she will never be be credible as an instructor again. SSgt with 12 yrs TIS, rethink your career, you’re going nowhere. Two children, they are going to be so proud when somebody brings that mag to school.

Wardmama, lighting, allover makeup, camera filters, etc., it almost isn’t the same woman. Severa, I agree on the shaving. For some reason that little splotch of hair reminded me of Hitler.

SSgt. Manhart, when you took the oath it came with conditions. One of those conditions is to follow regulations. Please, do all the AF women (past, present and future) a favor and get out.

P.S. Men, women, lowest rank or highest rank; should all be held to the same standards. When it doesn’t happen it degrades the entire force. But, there’s no need to let every trashy deed go unpunished just because some do.  mad

  12. I’m torn by the debate.

On one hand I think the landing strip should stay, on the other, i think it should go.

  13. Her interview from FOX News:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dj6vOwGJ64

Posted by Kuso JiJi    Japan   01/13/2007  at  06:52 PM

  14. I agree with Wardmama, Severa, Grumpyguy and Punkins.  Granted, she is attractive, but there is a time and place for everything.  And I hate to be a prudish rightwing nut job, but this display should be for her husband only.  And speaking of that husband, I really question the character of any man who would be ok with his wife, and mother of his children posing nude for Playboy.  Really, what kind of man is it who would be comfortable with any Joe Schmoe with $5 in his pocket (or however much this magazine costs on the newsstand) being able to jerk off to prurient photos of his wife?

On another note, I’ve never served in the military and I don’t know the Air Force regulations, but isn’t there some sort of morality clause against doing things like this?  After all, the woman is wearing our country’s military uniform, which she has disgraced.

So if she wants to do stuff like this with her husband’s blessing, she should quit the Air Force.

Posted by lisar915    United States   01/13/2007  at  07:08 PM

  15. Well, boys and girls, this will be one time I do NOT agree with wardmama. I did my 20, and honorably retired. I find no flaw. This woman is art. She did not perform any poses which would be considered pornographic, she has a beautiful physique and is justifiably proud. There is a difference between nude art and pornography. How many of you out there are of the opinion that all the great nude paintings should be burned? Hmm? Or do you? This woman has every reason to be proud. And I did not see shame and humiliation at being “used as a sex object” on her face at ALL! What I saw was justifiable pride in her feminine glory.

Posted by cmblake6    United States   01/14/2007  at  11:34 AM

  16. Im with Wardmom. Are we certain that this is the same lady??

Posted by hozer    United States   01/15/2007  at  10:52 AM

  17. As an NCO, she knew better.  Back in the late 70’s, early 80’s, a group of military females posed nude for Playboy or Penthouse, and got in trouble.  The military operates with a different set of rules and many of you know them and why.  A singe man or woman in the military having an affair with a married individual will be charged with adultery and their is a reason for that.

The remarks that will be made to this SSgt in the work place will get men charged with and prosecuted for sexual harassment.  She’ll go into work and her picture will be hanging up and she’ll get upset.  Her husband will be the butt of jokes or remarks:  Hey Joe, how about we watch the game over your house; will your wife be home to pose?  How long do you think her husband will put up with the remarks and pictures of his wife all over?  Eventually, he will become a man and take action.  How many men do you know that will put up with other men making “sexual” remarks about their wife?

Thing is, with the military, good order and discipline is necessary.  Accidents can and do happen because of stuff like this.  Private Sure Shot had a gun jam and shot Sgt Screws Around, who kept telling the private he had a hot wife.  Capt Fighter Jock is messing with Sgt Crew Chiefs wife and during his sortie, an oil line comes loose causing engine failure and the crash of the aircraft.  Capt Jock couldn’t eject because one of the pins in his seat initiators wasn’t removed during preflight by the crew chief.

Whether she’s “art” or “feminine glory”, that’s irrelevant.  As an NCO, she is to uphold the highest standards of honor and integrity.  She knew the rules and chose to break them. Her remark of she didn’t think she did anything wrong is Bull shit as she is either the most ignorant NCO in the Air Force or one big liar.

  19. Hahah Skipper, funny!

Now for those of you who saw nothing wrong with what this woman did, would you feel the same way if it was *your* wife and the mother of *your* children?  Also, I saw the video of the Fox News interview with her on Youtube.  She sounded like an airhead.

Posted by lisar915    United States   01/15/2007  at  10:19 PM

  20. I too saw her live on Cavuto on FOX. She seemed like a nice young lady. Very poised and well-mannered.

(In spite of that tiny “Hitler ‘stache” I knew was hiding under there somewhere.)

Now c’mon admit it! How many of you ladies only wish you looked that good?

For those of you who think E-5 after 12 years TIS is bad news, remember the Clinton cutbacks and subsequent rank freezes? It was the same thing back in the late 1970’s after Vietnam. You couldn’t get promotion to save your life. That’s one of the reasons I got out.

This gal is smart enough to know her military career isn’t going anywhere any time soon so she made the next step and got a ton of publicity to help her along. She’ll be out within a year “for the convenience of the government” and guest-starring on “CSI-Miami” a week later.

Yeah. Crazy - like a fox. In both senses of the word.

    BWAH-HAH-HAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA ......

    LOL

Posted by The Skipper    United States   01/15/2007  at  11:25 PM

  22. Skipper, you’re thinking too far back.  Years ago it was hard making rank but not now.  Their is a standing joke in the AF that all you just need to sign your name to get promoted; those that misspell it get promoted next year.  Things slowed down during the Clinton years but have picked up fast in the past 6.  In the past 6 years, promotion rates to SSgt have averaged 48.9%.  I bet you wish they had those rates when you were in.

But, TSgt has always been the hard one to make for some reason, averaging about 23%.

Posted by BobF    United States   01/16/2007  at  07:23 AM

  23. Spot on Skipper. Post 22 is a perfect explanation, Imathinkin. Take advantage of your assets, and she definitely has brilliant assets.

Posted by cmblake6    United States   01/16/2007  at  01:07 PM

  24. This young lady has done nothing wrong. She deserves neither the criticism or adverse action from the AF for the artsy layout in Playboy or for being a 12 year SSGT.

First off, if the AF has a problem with her taking her clothes off for a men’s magazine, why do they allow the same magazine to be sold inside their Base Exchanges? I suggest the AF focus more on the NCO’s that boink their female trainees and less on this gal who has done nothing more than titilate us.

Second, no one should look down their pointy noses or question why someone is only this rank or that rank based on TIS.  As I recall, promotion occurs within the career field.  The competition for the next stripe is fierce amongst training instructors. I’d rather sit down and have a beer with her than a 16 year Chief.

  25. Damn, Kuso, youn rock! Perfect! And I say again, she is art! Not some cheap, naked floozy, but ART! I surely hope she knows of the support she recieves out here in the blog world. Again, I did my 20, I went through the bs, and I find no flaw. And I agree with the Skipper on post 22.

Posted by cmblake6    United States   01/16/2007  at  10:29 PM

  26. Oh, and lisar915, If my ol’ lady was that fine, I’d want the world to know what I had at home! All of my women, throughout my life of debauchery, one of the first things we did together was go to the range so I could teach them how to defend themselves were I not home.
