Instead of 100W bulbs, go with 60W ones. Heat is your enemy. Over time, the excess heat from the 100W bulbs will degrade the wiring in the fixture and box. I replace quite a few fixtures every year because they used 100W bulbs.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve actually had good luck with the newfangled CFL’s. I bought one as an experiment a while back - mostly because it was supposed to save money in the long run (and it has, alongside the other three I’ve bought since) - and the light mine gives off is about as bright as it’s intended equivalent, albeit with a subtle yellowish tint. Maybe it depends on the brand, though ... I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about inferior bulbs, but haven’t had a dud yet.
That said, forcing “green” solutions on customers is stupid ... market forces should be the only determiner of goods and services, not to mention that forcing decisions on people tends to piss them off - and isn’t something that should be done unless it’s well and truly needed.
