She has a right not to salute if she does not want to.
Just like the Army should have the right to send her to a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan with no body armor, no weapons and dressed only in a string bikini.
I believe that would take care of the problem quite quickly.
I like your thinking RRWH - it is I believe a Court Martial (or at least a Article 15) offense - she should have just sat in her car and DONE no selfie.
This ‘look at me, look at me’ need for (in)famy and pathetic desire to be in the ‘news’ - is really sad.
One has to wonder - when the ‘news’ ‘reporters’ are going to take a look at her past - to see if this was planned all along.
I’m nearly amazed a serving soldier is allowed to a) have a private cell phone on their person, b) take an unauthorized “selfie”, c) publish it, & d) make such a disrespectful statement without immediate reprimand.
I guess the military life is a lot less military than I thought it was.
I think Drew’s last line nailed it ok. And having seen a photo of her, is anyone surprised?
Before long she most likely will sue claiming that due to her color, she was not advanced in rank and opportunity, so will sue on grounds of racial discrimination.
I approve Vilmar’s solution btw, but we know that won’t happen.
Frankly, I hope they throw the entire UCMJ at her, BCD, max time in Leavenworth, etc. On top of that, while waiting to be prosecuted, put her on flag detail (both morning and night) in addition to every crappy detail they can dream up.
Once she’s discharged, sue her in civilian court for the costs of her training, equipment, etc so she will spend her lifetime paying back Uncle Sugar.
Lastly, put her selfie on a poster with mandatory display criteria in every common room, building entrance, shoppette, PX, and commissary with the text “How not to be a US Soldier.” Include her name, the charges, and her punishment.
