Sorry about that last line. It’s so hard to not use the My Cousin Vinny line when the opportunity presents itself.
I’m one of the out of state permit holders. I also have a nonresident ccw from Florida as well as a ccw from my home state of Mississippi. That means I can carry in 36 states.
Having a permit in my home state means I don’t get a Brady check when I buy a gun.
It’s funny seeing the looks on lefties faces when I explain it to them.
Single Stack, do you know what the best combo is for out of staters? I’d like to get CCW in as many as possible, but I don’t think I can afford more than two out of state permits. My state does not recognize any other state’s CCW or even possession permit, so none of the other state’s bother to recognize my state. I think. It all seems rather petty to me.
Oh, and I thought the Brady Check (NICS) was automatic anytime anybody bought any gun at a store. It would seem smart to do it that way, since once part of any government usually doesn’t know what the other part is doing.
Drew,
With the Utah and Florida non resident permits you can carry in 33 states. The Mississippi CCW is recongnized in 8 states. There is some overlap in reciprocity among the 3 states’ CCWs, so I can carry in 36 states.
People who hold a CCW from their home state are exempt from the Brady check requirement. It’s up to the FFL holder whether or not to honor the exemption.
From the look of everything Utah covers, the only hiccup about it instead of my NM is Colorado. CO only accepts a home-state license.
So, now to figure out who to set up getting one of THOSE through!
Yeah, Utahns. I was a Utahn when I was a kid. Odd sounding word, but I can’t say any of the other choices are any better.
At least I’m not a Dallasite anymore. That one sounds like a foot disease or something.
