  1. Arrest that metaphor! Or whatever the heck it is!

I saw an article in the paper this morning that the Hollywooders are getting all exercised over the fact that BBM lost. How could that have happened?!? Our annointed! Rejected! The problem was that the ‘Wooders filled up the ballot with so many ‘sensitive’, ‘high brow’ (??) movies that another one stole the show! And now they’re in quite a bind. It would be one thing if a religiously retrograde right-wing movie like The Passion had stolen their show (fat chance!). Then they’d have something to bitch about. But it was another ‘sensitive’ movie! What to do!?

  2. Stewart was actually funny from the clips I have heard. It’s just that the room was a bunch of humorless twats and dhimbulbs. Of course, he was hired to take swacks at Bush and all he did was turn his ascerbic wit on Hollywood. Damn, can’t get good help these days.

  3. Did you catch this comment??

Pundits had predicted that interest could fall this year due to the highbrow nature of the five movies nominated for best film - Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Crash, Munich and Good Night, and Good Luck.

..oh, interest was low because the movies were too “high brow.” Yea, that’s it. The average American is just too stupid to fully appreciate gay cowboys riding bareback into the sunset together.  Not too long ago the movie “Alexandar” bombed horribly in the US and Oliver Stone blamed the ‘stupid Americans’:

STONE BLAMES ALEXANDER FLOP ON ‘HOMOPHOBIC’ AMERICA

Director OLIVER STONE has slammed American audiences as homophobic, and blames this prejudice as the reason why his latest movie ALEXANDER flopped in the US.

Stone expects the epic biopic, which stars COLIN FARRELL as bisexual ALEXANDER THE GREAT, to perform better in Europe as he believes Europeans have a better understanding of ancient history.

He says, “Americans don’t read about ancient history like the Europeans. And in America there is a raging fundamentalism and morality.

“From day one the Bible Belt people did not show up because there was one phrase throughout the media and that was ‘Alex the gay’.

Of course it bombed in Europe too. Stone could not be reached for comment.

  4. Yup. Wife and daughter were tuned in. I didn’t watch the whole thing, but caught a glimpse now and then. What little I saw of Stewart, he was funny. My daughter enjoyed the Stewart jokes. She told me a few that I didn’t see. The one about Bjork not showing up because Cheney had shot her when she was trying on her dress was ‘obligatory’, but it was as much of a joke on the ridiculousness of the whole red carpet scene than on Cheney. It seemed he made a lot of jokes at the expense of Hollywooders and their politics. (The ‘Wooders enjoyed the show because somebody they voted for would win...) Wife said that overall the show was boring.

  5. tuffbeingright: Yeah, I saw that ‘highbrow’ bit. The last time I heard anybody try to tell a story about some lovelorn shepherds, it was definitely not a highbrow story. (Note to Hollywood and the media: Cowoboys tend cattle.)

  6. I’m getting sleepy just reading the reviews. You can’t actually do this anymore, but it remains good advice:
