Tom DeLay – The Sharks Are Circling

  1. Stanley,

Today seems like old home week for me on this site. First another StL resident. Now you - who are smack dab where I travel to about 3 times a year. Savvy Spicewood Texas on Hwy ...uh...71, I think?

Do you really believe Delay needs to go? That will hurt the (R) party - but if he needs to get the boot, then so be it. I had read - and dismissed - the MSM stories out of pure habit. But I have noticed an uncharacteristic silence as to mitigating facts from alternate sources. I’ve just seen the “so do the Dems” line of moral equivalence that we (R)s condemn so often. On Rush, no less.

Perhaps my dismissal of the MSM story was premature. (Ha! Find the equivalent statement coming from a (L)!)

How about a bullet-fact-synopsis of the current “travel-crimes” from you, C’est vous plais?

  2. Cheese, he doesn’t need to go, as the US Representative for the 22nd district in Texas. I think that he can do a fine job there for years to come. His support in Sugarland has eroded a bit, but it is still solid.

He needs to go as the US House Majority Leader. He has attracted way too much attention to himself.

It would not be a good thing for the Republicans, to hang onto this guy until he crashes into the ground.

You will get no bullet points from me because I do not know the evidence. The people who will determine the evidence are in the jury pool of Travis County Texas.

We do not need a speaker that is hamstrung by legal wrangling over the next few years, and he will be hamstrung. I think that he has a whole hell of a lot more problems than Kay Bailey Hutchinson had when she got “Earled” in the 1990’s.

  3. So...is he charged with something in Texas?

I’m not trying to be coy or argumentative. Honest. But from your original post I got the impression that the Moonbat Gooberhead might bring charges. For what?

If Goober is depending on the “trip-crimes” the MSM is babbling about, then he’s dipping into an empty sack, so far as I can tell.

From what I read, all funders save one are legitimate, and the one bad apple was not known to be a bad apple or designated a bad apple until the trip weas actually underway. Further, said info was not passed on to those involved (including one or two (D)s on the same trip) until the trip was finished and all involved were back in the states.

No (rational) DA would build a case on this already-collapsed house of cards. But there’s no telling what a Goober will do. I will grant you that.

BTW: Juries in trials (even in Texas) don’t determine evidence. They are passive participants in the process and just get to listen to it. And render a verdict, of course.

I’m not convinced that he’s “attracted” attention to himself so much as refused to behave the way the (L)s want him to, i.e. knuckle under and behave like a good moonbat. I would take the position that - in the absence of substantive evidence of a crime - he should take precisely the course he’s taken, and to hell with “attention” and MSM noise. And I sure as hell wouldn’t run because a Goober “might” try for a show-trial. (R)s should be made of sterner stuff than that!

The (R)s are going to be facing this crap for the next 2-4 years; The (L)s have gone truly psychotic since the ‘04 election and will stoop to anything to derail the process. Time for some serious spinal cord. I know Texas spine is tough - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

  4. Why is nobody screaming about this?

It seems that he’s not the only one with relatives on the payroll on either side of the aisle.

All our Representatives and Senators take “free” trips. I don’t think it’s right and it should be stopped for all of them.

The NYSlimes is soliciting Republicans to write negative Op-Eds on Delay and aren’t interested in anything positive.

The Dems aren’t letting the Ethics committee meet in protest of some rules changes. Thus Delay doesn’t get to defend himself and they don’t have to string up Baghdad Jim McDermott for his sins.

I don’t know Delay and I’m not sure that I can support him in some of the things he has said recently, but I believe that it’s a selective attack dredging up old news and trying to make as much as possible of it.

  5. Cheese, no offense taken here. All the facts will be determined in some other forum, besides a blog. I do not think that there are going to be lot of Texas Republicans (or Republicans in general) bailing water when his ship goes down.

    Blub… Blub… Blub…

  6. Stanley,

No offense taken or intended. We can agree to disagree - or perhaps more accurately - to wait.

My hope is that he stays the course and doesn’t cost the (R)s more than they can bear. I grant that this could be wishful thinking.

  7. Cheese, DeLay has been a very effective leader. He has done one whole hell of a lot for the State of Texas. I too, would be pleased is he can continue. I am starting to have my doubts.

The only reason that you are hearing about my doubts, is because I am spewing out my thoughts until the real proprietor(s) of BMEWS can return.

We are undergoing a period of anarchy.

  8. StinKer,

    IMHO:
I think the MSM was squealing about DeLay’s family stuff until the article you linked (or one like it) came out. That kinda defused it for obvious reasons, and because there is allegedly more of same by (D)s not covered in the article.

  9. Stanley,

Sorry to further increase your burdens. I was just blowing it out my butt.

I know that the proprieter(s) have issues right now. None of my bidness. But I am sympathetic.

I’ve been over-posting recently for a reason: I’m at home (retired - supposedly) doing some seriously massive simulations in priority background for a friend still in the workforce. They take about an hour each. So...I sit and surf and watch the itty bitty progress bar. BMEWS attracted my attention due to its informal earthy comments and sassy clientel. This posting level will decrease drastically soon.

  10. Cheese, you have not increased my burdens. Blowing it out your butt is OK. As far as I can tell, I am blowing it out my butt too. There is only one thing that I want to know before you leave.

WHY THE HELL DO YOU CALL YOURSELF CHEESE_TENSOR!!!! What kind of a damned name is that!!!

Pardon all the yelling… My bad…

Posted by Yellow Dog    United States   04/19/2005  at  11:59 PM

  11. NO. We must FIGHT BACK and protect Rep. DeLay. Remember folks, this is STILL LEGAL for the politicians to do. This is how they got rid of Newt Gingrich. The ONLY reason the Dems are going after DeLay is because HE IS EFFECTIVE AT HIS JOB.

  12. Stanley,

    <good morning...yawn>

    RE: Cheese_tensor:

Short answer: Its a mathematical pun. And like all puns when explained, will simply elicits groans. Isn’t that what they’re for?

    Hint:

    (1) If you wanted to describe cheese (dispassionately, and in general), how would you phrase it?

    (2) What is a tensor, and what is it used to describe?

Background: I love cheese and have a serious love-hate relationship with tensor representations of complex problems.

  13. I’m tired of this…

When a Democrat was found in contempt of court, the Dems rallied around and saved his sorry Presidency.

Now, we have accusations that the Republican Majority Whip has engaged in (gasp!) legal behavior. And Stanley the RINOs want to jettison him.

  14. DeLay needs to stay! If he goes, then Nancy Pelosi, who just paid a whopper of ethics fine, and Harry Reed, who has made influence peddling into an art form, go too. The REpublicans need to get their act together and kick some ass!

Posted by mcharrison18    United States   04/20/2005  at  12:37 PM

  15. By the way...If i recall correctly this DA has filed charges against any Republican from Texas he could manufacture-he went after Kay Bailey Hutchinson several times, didn’t he?

Posted by mcharrison18    United States   04/20/2005  at  12:39 PM

  16. He went after Kay Bailey once, and she handed his ass to him on a platter. She dosn’t shoot herself in the foot every ten minutes like DeLay does.
