  1. My mother recommended ‘Pillars’ to me. About halfway through it I asked her if it gets any better, or if the guy keeps getting shafted all the way through. She told me no, he pretty much gets it all the way through, and at that point I put it down and never finished it (unusual for me).

    I stand by what I told her then: I might as well read the book of Job, the only real difference is the setting.

  2. Yup, this one is similar. After 650 pages it’s getting tiring. Never ending shafting for all the major good guy characters, while the dirty ruthless shitheads get ahead by lying, stealing, cheating, forgery, and the occasional accusation of heresy and witchcraft. But with luck, the Black Death will get them all.
