  1. The perfect device to derail Hillary’s campaign, as in Bang Bang Maxwell’s silver hammer came down upon her he-ea- ad.

    cool grin

  2. My grandfather had something that looked like it. he used it to glaze old fashioned windows. the hammer could set points or tap in loose nails, and the triangle was used for the glazing compound. Am I right?  Of course I like Richs answer better.

  3. Wow, you BMEWS readers are just beyond amazing! The very first serious guess gets it right. Yes, it’s a glazer’s hammer, also used to set pushpins in picture frames. I bet I’ve seen 100 kinds of funky hammers in my life, but I’d never seen one like this. And you guys got it in just one shot. Friggin’ amazing.

The classic design of a glazer’s hammer does not have a rotating head. That’s a modern twist used by just this one single company. ( although to be fair, many hand tools are just slight variations on ones from hundred years ago, so there could’ve been a rotater design back then ) The old style used a hammer head that was trapezoidal in cross section, so that the side of the hammer would rest flat against the glass while the handle stuck up. These have become professional upholstery hammers, but you can see how the claw on this one is perfect for working the glazing into or out of a narrow gap.

Made right here in the USA for 190 years, they cost $16.

And in the “learn something new every day” department, it looks like the protective side straps on a hammer (or any tool maybe, like an axe or a splitting maul or a medieval war hammer??) are properly called “bleiches”.

  4. How I found out, was about 30 years ago.  I was staying at grandmas, and grandpa’s.  My uncle, 8 years older had an m80, so instead of just blowing it off, we found a piece of pipe, and a golf ball.  We lit the wick, dropped the golf ball into the pipe and waited. a big explosion and the golf ball hit light speed. about 2 football field lengths away was an ice rink with a metal roof.  That golf ball returned at about the same speed as it left, and went through the upstairs bedroom window. after a lot of lying to cover exactly how the window got broken, grandpa made us fix the window. Glazing a window is a skill that I still possess.

  6. Hey Drew, does he get a free Mug???????????????????

  7. Oy vey, again with the mugs? To the best of my knowledge, they are still available. However, nobody knows who actually owns either of the pages that they are sold from. So who knows where the money goes when you buy one, but it doesn’t come to me. I tried to get that all straightened out a couple of years ago, but it turned out that Mr. Christian never owned the pages either. One of these days, I’ll get to it. Probably have to just start up a new design and make a new “company”.

So, sorry, no mug. No caulk either. [ I did give away that once. Sent them a nice assortment of several tubes. Can’t remember who got it, and I hope they put it to good use. ]

  8. Ya know, I think that’s about how I learned to glaze a window myself. Except it was me that went through the glass instead of a golf ball. Buncha teens rough housing at somebody’s house when the parents weren’t home. We got it fixed, cleaned everything up, just in time. Only thing that ever came of it was that Joey’s mom was real happy with him for doing some house work on his own initiative, but why did he only clean just the one window? grin
