    I did a couple of 6-week dets to Kefalvik, Iceland back in the day. The Skipper is right. It takes awhile to thaw out.

    My two lasting memories of Kef:

    1.) Miles and Miles of Miles and Miles.

    2.) Perpetual crosswinds. Takeoffs were always fun. Landings, not so much.

Then there was the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line of an earlier era, stretched from Alaska thru northern Canukistan to Greenland… Lots of white “igloo” Radar Domes, no modern Phased Array antennae.  BMEWS1 was it’s successor, but this BMEWS really protects us from the venemous and rabid spittle of the Screeching Moonbats.
