I think it’s great! Big crowds gather on both sides to watch their soldiers try to out-peacock each other. Lots of outpouring of nationalism, and then free rice and lentils for everyone.
Ok, I made up the free rice and lentils part.
The uniforms and marching styles are very similar. Kind of makes me think the people on both sides are pretty much the same folks, cousins separated by a fence and a religion.
There are several other videos on YouTube covering the ceremony, and the comments in each one are filled with “hate speech”. But even that is unintentionally funny, as both sides cuss each other out in pretty much the exact same way.
Knowing what I do of military formality, pretty much everything means something in this ceremony. Considering the long years of mutual distrust, occasionally punctuated by small arms and cannon fire, I find the shaking of hands very significant. Men of honor can develop a serious respect for each other when they know they might have to kill one another.
Despite the commentator’s rather ignorant remarks, this detail has to be very desired duty for both armies.
Only problem is: Muslims HAVE NO HONOR.
I liked the way neither flag is struck first, I would guess they both rise together too, until islam became demented in the last century it was all India, the agreement to partition was a blackmail in WW2, either agree to split the country or they will join the japs, I wonder how Ghandi’s methods would have worked on the japs?
Anybody else thinking of the Ministry of Silly Walks?
If you watched the video, he clearly mentions that agency.
