  1. One of just many reasons I kick myself from leaving Texas and wanting to move back. At least one of us would be working - isn’t that better for the country and the tax and spend Obama Administration?

  2. As cold weather settles in for the winter, I really miss the Abaco islands.  After living there for 8 years, this “snow stuff” can really kick in the memories of sand and warm days, good people, and peace.

Hopefully, you can post some of the pictures.

  3. Welcome back Kotter.
If it was me there I’d still be there.

  4. Spent short time there and didn’t want to leave. Went so far as to look at houses , found one in Newport like a lot. Wife vetoed for a few logical reasons as she is so well able. I mean, she see beyond the sand and sea. Well, at the time we were younger and healthier but had not yet met Wade Cook and the Wall Street Money Machine and so could ill afford at the time anyway. By the time we could it was too late. But I really did buy into the Bahamas logo, It’s Better in the Bahamas.
    The downside?
It is after all a black country and they resent so many white folks buying what they can not afford. And that attitude is even worse int the American V.I.
Anyway ... well done Drew and look forward to more pix if available.

Sorry to be gone last day or two. Hope to be back very soon.
    Cheers and welcome back ,

  5. Though the natives seemed friendly enough, what Peiper says is fairly factual. The island of Eleuthera was making vast fortunes up until the early 1980s. Bahamian independence in 1973 brought with it a host of South African “local ownership” laws which forced the hotels, casinos, fishing guides, and even the farms to be sold cheap to the natives. And the natives were pretty much descendants of former slaves of the English. And they somehow ran those businesses into the ground.

The Bahamas, hell the entire Caribbean, ought to be the perfect melting pot. Perhaps it could have been, but it looks like the white folks took off ages ago. And of course American politics screws them over plenty. Don’t get me going on the Sugar Act, or the pineapple and banana thing, or cotton, or tobacco. Or the high speed ferries that never happened, nor how the whole damn islands ought to be part of the USA, our next 7 states. And if not part of us, then a highly valued and respected trading partner. After all, they’re right the hell off the coast.
