I have to completely disagree with the judge. The government is not ‘searching’ you. You are applying for taxpayer funded assistance. You are coming to the govenment. The government is not forcing an unreasonable search on you. No different from taking a drug test before a private company employs you.
Note that this is totally different from TSA searches at airports. I have a contract (ticket) with a private business (the airline). I have not gone to the government for my ticket, I paid for that ticket myself. Yet the government thinks it can unreasonably search/grope/confiscate my property before boarding. Take a hint from Israel–profile!
Might also take the hint on domestic benefits: Profile! The taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for druggies.
