The Sins Of The Past

  1. I smell a HUGE lawsuit!

Posted by Macker    United States   05/05/2006  at  01:32 AM

  2. That is a crying shame!
In my younger days I posed for some pics for a biker rag for the money to put my daughter in daycare so I could go to college. No, I have not always been a girl scout!
My bosses would probably have a conniption fit.

I have never been a big proponent of the lawsuit mentality. I passed up a golden opportunity in a situation with a previous employer, just because I wanted to wash my hands of the whole mess and get on with my life.

I hope this gal sues the pants off that district! It breaks my heart that she is being punished for what we commonly call the stupidity of youth, particularly after she has obviously changed.

By the way, just how did they “discover” that she was in that film?
    Who was watching what? smirk

  3. Good question Melissa, Perhaps it was the principal himself? I would bet someone from her past ratted her out, and who knows what reasons.  zipper

  4. She must be conservative.  Had she been a lib, instead of firing her they would have consoled her about her tortured past and explained to the parents that she’s redeemed herself.

When you’re conservative, you’re scum and you get fired. finger

  5. How much do you wanna bet that whoever outed this teacher did so because Ms. Dye turned down an “invitation” to “discuss” her past role? KnowhutImean!

Posted by Macker    United States   05/05/2006  at  08:14 AM

  6. Likely.  Blackmail doesn’t always involve money.

Posted by Crawdaddy550    United States   05/05/2006  at  08:49 AM

  7. I agree. There are two possible reasons why she was fired:

    (a) Somebody had an ax to grind with her.

    (b) Somebody wanted something from her and she refused.

My guess is Number #2. Whoever it was wanted either money to keep quiet or sex. Somewhere out there is a true asshole who is enjoying this moment. They would do well to remember that all the chickens come home to roost eventually. I would like to personally take a baseball bat to this individual’s pointy little head.

  8. I’m gonna’ play a little “devil’s advocate” here on this one.  So the lady(?) was 23 when she did a little something on the side to make some money to get her through a rough patch.  Ok.  I understand that and won’t judge her for making that decision.  I respect the fact that she pulled herself together and turned her life around for the better.

But I’ll be the FIRST to say that MY life has been FAR from ideal.  I’ve been through times in my life where lesser people would have killed either themselves or somebody else.  Times where nobody was there to help me.  Yet I somehow managed to find the personal diginity to carry on and to do what I needed to do without having to compromise myself or my values.  So what’s this lady’s excuse?

Have I done things in my past that I am not proud of?  Sure.  Certainly, I had to answer for my actions when I applied for a public servant position (police).  State and federal background investigations are NOT fun.  While I DID get the job, I fully understood and acknowledged that things in my past may have impacted whether or not I could possibly get or retain that job.  If something negative did occur in the “here and now” because of my past actions, I was prepared to accept the consequences because I believed (and still believe) in being accountable for my actions.

If this lady didn’t want to be humiliated like this then why in hell would she take a position that would allow you to possibly (likely?) face your past like this?  And while I’m sure none of us know the EXACT details of her employment, most public service positions of trust usually involve an application question or two regarding past actions involving moral turpitude.  I get the feeling that this poor lady answered “no” when she should’ve answered “yes” and explained herself.

Was she probably blackmailed?  I’d put money on it.
Is that wrong?  You bet...dirty pool is just that: dirty.
Did she have a hand in setting herself up for this situation: I’d say probably so.

    Just my 2 cents.

  9. What the hell difference does it make? Was it illegal for her to make that movie? No. So shut the heck up. If it was illegal ... 11 years is past the statute of limitations yes? Ok, so shut the hell up. “Moral interpretude”? Take a flyin fatwah at the moon: can such a claim even be made in this day and age? Especially against one who has seen the error of her ways and repented? For the 3rd and last time schoolboard, shut the hell up.

Just this once, they found a teacher who WASN’T screwing her students, so they canned her. Lawsuit sweetheart. Big time. Dr. Evil quantities of cash.

  10. I’m sorry Drew - were you telling me to shut up somewhere in there?

  11. I also think this is a true shame.  Maybe the School official who fired her was upset because she wouldn’t submit to a “personal performance” or Private Re-Enactment of her performance int he film.  Regardless, I agree that at least she wasn’t screwing her students… Oh and Skipper… Mary Magdeline was probably an in-accurate comparison.  Although she has been mistakenly associate as being the prostitute in scripture, in actuality she isn’t or wasn’t a prostitute.  Got to keep our Skipper on course… smile

  13. School districts have clauses in their employment contracts that allow them to immediately terminate teachers who act in such a way as to lessen their effectiveness in the classroom.

Obvivously that’s a catch-all clause that allows a district to can you for most anything.  I agree with the other folks posting here that she’s probably a Conservative.  Libs seem to get away with more.

  14. I bet that whoever saw that movie had to watch more than once.

    In a darkened room.

    Alone.

With a roll of paper towels.

  15. Am I missing something?  Seems to me the “I did something morally questionable in the past and now I want it to be forgiven or forgotten” is more the LIBERAL take and the “we’re gonna’ fire you ‘cause we think you’re an immoral slut” is a more CONSERVATIVE view.

Really, this has got to be about something on personal level, not about being liberal or conservative.  As for being a classroom distraction?  C’mon, high school students?  Internet?  How long do you think it would take before every kid in that school had seen good ‘ol Ms. Dye doing the nasty?  And I agree, THAT would be a distraction if I were a hormonally challenged teenager in her class.

I agree, its a shame.  But as a good friend once told me, “Some mistakes you NEVER quit paying for.”

  16. Hey, TANSTAAFL! According to the DaVinci Code, Mary Magdalene was actually the wife of Jesus and they had children and the Holy Grail is .... never mind. Sorry about that. I got lost in the “DaVinci Code Hysteria” there for a few seconds.

    LOL
