1. Amazing coincidence. I had a similar post in mind.

Looking only at the coal and crude oil picture is incomplete. America is floating on a SEA of natural gas. Not only do we have far more of it that we can use, our storage facilities are brim full of the stuff. And new, amazingly HUGE deposits of it are being found left and right.

I will have a post on this later today I hope.

You want a new national energy policy? Here you go:

Build nuke plants left and right, until more than 85% of our electricity is nuclear generated.

Take that stimulus money and turn it into “shovel ready” jobs. Fix the bridges as originally planned, yes, but upgrade the power grid immensely. Hey, wasn’t that the original plan? Wonder what [pork!] happened [/pork!]?

We need roughly 3 times the electric generating and carrying capacity that we now have.

Convert most personal transportation vehicles to run on natural gas. It works, it burns much cleaner than gasoline or diesel, and we have unbelievable amounts of it that can be recovered. Oh, and it costs less too.

We need a bigger, better gas pipeline infrastructure. See section A.1 above.

Convert most homes to have natural gas or propane heat. Propane is a byproduct of natural gas processing, so we have crazy amounts of that as well.

The ultimate goal of crude oil policy is that it should only be used for making plastics and other chemicals. Crude oil is just too damn useful to burn.

  2. The fate of the world in the past century hinged with troubling frequency over who controlled a canal and the neighboring piles of sand with oil underneath. Survival dictates competition, and if we allow ourselves to be out-competed on this area, the survival of our freedom and ourselves may be short indeed.

After all, what would have happened during the Ardennes offensive if it was the Western Allied tanks rather than the German ones that ran out of fuel after two days?

  3. It is worth remembering it was Tony Bliar who pursued the “dash for gas” policy in order to pacify the “green” lobby. There were decades of gas available in the North Sea and now it’s nearly gone. All because the scumbag Blair was too afraid to tackle the environmentalists and build nuclear plants or even coal thanks to the slavish adoption of EU rules.

Britain is not quite as dependant on Russian gas as the article makes out. The Germans and other European countries are in worse shape there. In fact it is pretty much what Ronald Reagan warned them of all those years ago. They ignored him in the typical arrogant European way. It will return to bite them on the arse. The alternative for Britain is to buy gas from those splendid arab chaps.

The socialists have been running the show for twelve years now and have built zero nuclear power stations and as far as I know only one coal fired plant. Meanwhile many of the older nuclear plants will have to be decommissioned in the next few years. It takes a long time to build new nuclear power stations and I think it is inevitable that there will be rolling blackouts. However Labour will no longer be in office so they won’t get the blame for causing this disgraceful situation.

Commenting is not available in this weblog entry.

Next entry: It's being called, "Pink Diplomacy" and yes , the taxpayer will fund it. Like there's a choice?

Previous entry: How seriously stupid does one have to be, to seriously buy into this? Pretty damn stupid!
