  1. Doesn’t have much imagination, does he?  “What more can you do to me,” indeed!

Perhaps they can do something about his imagination at Leavenworth.

    (sigh of disdain)

    cool mad

  2. Give him full-time Kitchen “Patrol” Duty… Peelin’ spuds, the old fashioned way,
none of those fancy-schmancy stainless steel tumbler gizmoes, just a rusty paring knife and about a bazillion potatoes…

  3. I’m at a looss for words.  I’m pretty sure both The Corps and Ole Ernie wish this had stayed covered up.  Except for the small matter of murder, I’m reminded of the old guy executed recently in California.  After somewhere around three decades have passed, the old deterrence value fades and the thing starts to resemble a farce.

  4. Yeah, I’m guessing that the UCMJ has little or no references to statute of limitation.  LOL

  5. I’d love to go back to PI.
    This time though-I would graduate!
...and there should be no statute of limitations on desertion during wartime!

  6. Barb: Post 9-11 was the first time in 34 years I truly regretted no being back in The Corps.

  7. The “relative” must have owed him money, eh?

On the whole, I don’t think they really give a rat’s ass about deserters in today’s military. It is, after all, an all volunteer force. Oh, they’ll still nail your hide to the wall as an example if you’re caught or make a political statement out of your desertion, but if you really don’t want to be there they don’t want you.

I know a woman who joined the Army after her husband got out, decided she didn’t like it, and deserted. This was all pre-9/11, of course. She’s living under her real name and it appears that the Army has no interest in her.

I know what you mean, Oink. I felt the same way. Still do.

  8. I’ve got an interesting story.  I don’t know how this happened, but somebody managed to be considered AWOL twice.  Well, actually I do.  This one female in my company in AIT was late coming back from leave for Christmas, and then she was up and gone a few days later when she was taking her drug test.  Nobody has any idea what happened to her, she just disappeared, it seemed.
