  1. Remember the towlie fifth columnist in uniform who was arrested right at the start of the war for similar misdeeds?

Is this another such case?  Wouldn’t be surprised one iota.

    cool mad

  2. WTF is a “non-hostile” gunshot wound?

  3. A “non-hostile gunshot wound” is also known as “friendly fire” which isn’t. It is also known as “fragging” when the victim is a stupid brown-bar lieutenant. It can also be “self-inflicted wound” when some dipshit tries to clean his rifle while under the influence. Sometimes it is just plain “suicide” when a disturbing letter arrives from back home.

None of the above are fun.

    hmmm

  4. Sounds suspicious to me… If not an accident, then a score was “settled” and the perp is gonna serve a very looooong and unpleasant term at the Leavenworth Hilton, as a Private E-zero..

I remember back in summer 1969, at basic training at Fort Dix, one particular dipshit forgot to “clear” his M-14 and a .308 blank round was still chambered. While “cleaning” the weapon back at the barracks, he managed to fire it, and the little plastic slug in the tip got lodged into another trainee’s buttocks.

    Roll forward about one year…

One day, during an inspection, a recently minted butterbar 2LT was performing an inspection of the ranks. Lo and behold, it was none other than our intrepid “marksman”. After a few moments of mutual recognition, we struck a deal later on: if he didn’t doggiestyle with me, then I wouldn’t tell anybody there about his weapon-handling skills. Somehow, my name rarely hit the duty roster during his tenure, I just couldn’t figure it out…

  5. Sounds like a murder to me A suicide and accidental shooting are totally ruled out because he was shot in the back of the head while asleep. It could have been any one in his unit since the barracks was secured. They’ll get who ever did the dirty deed.

  6. There is a similar case involving a young girl from St. Louis............she died from non-combat related, “self-inflicted wounds”, but the officials don’t believe it was suicide...............the case is still “under investigation”.......Meanwhile, the family is grieving and can’t get any answers from the military........

  7. Could be an accidental discharge of a firearm.  Don’t know the angle of entry, gunshot residue, etc.  Still-in-all, a very bad scene.

Glad I’m not the Family Assistance Officer.

  8. Or “negligent discharge”, as I am sure this Marine was well past the marksmanship phase of boot camp.  At least, that’s what it was called when my platoon was past Basic Rifle Marksmanship.
