The British Army in retreat.  Was this the first Dunkirk?

  1. Which proves yet again that you should never turn your back on the frogs.

  2. A prototype for Dunkirk? In a sense. The first Dunkirk? No. That would probably be the British evacuation from Spain during the War of Spanish Succession, where dozens of thousands of British, Dutch, Austrian, Portuguese, and Pro-Hapsburg Spanish evacuated to Portugal and Britain under the guns of the Bourbon powers.

Just in case anybody doubted my ability to analyze obscure historical facts.

  3. Well, the question really was rhetorical. The fighting retreat simply reminded me of the same thing. Retreat and leave and come back again.  Actually, I should have remembered
the War of Spanish Succession as it isn’t actually obscure at all.  Not to me anyway.
