  3. I see this as the result of the infiltration of teacher training colleges in the late sixties. My teachers in the 70’s were often ex war veterans or people with real world experience, but most of them were kicked into touch by the new generation of liberals. It has gotten progressively worse, but the decline accelerated under Bliar and the socialists. The “all must have prizes” mentality of socialists who can’t accept there are winners and losers. Added to this the hateful Shirley Williams (ex SDP then Liberal Democrat a precursor to the odious slimebag Bliar) who did her level best to abolish the grammar schools system. This is the final result. A country of morons educated by morons.

  4. Lyndon, I know I often count on you maybe too much, but you have experience here I don’t, and the wife has been out of the loop for so long about the only thing she is certain of is an intense dislike of Liebour, prescott, blair, harperson and their enablers. So I have to ask to clarify, grammer schools?? That is different in the USA I think. Can you bring me uo to date on that issue.

  5. It isn’t much better here, my younger daughter went to college to be a teacher (so inspired by real teachers) and then found out the requirements (Unions and a Masters within X amount of time) that she dropped that and moved on. Our local school district has been great since it’s inception - but it is not without it’s problem thanks to the Unions and their infiltration - I notice (it began when I was in HS) that a lot of the young teachers move on quickly - because it is so onerous to teach any more. It is not so much about teaching - but about toeing a line - and a lot don’t want to toe the line.

A story yesterday talked about the worst states to retire to - and guess what OH is on it - thanks to the Unions which have killed this state and the moron Gov Strickland attempted to beat the dead horse to death - by adding zillions to the state (i.e. public) school systems and of course (against the OH Constitution) casinos - when unemployment is 11 to 14% (depending upon where you are in OH) - you want to put in casinos?!? How f*#$ing stupid is that? Oh, and I was right a couple of years ago - OH has the highest tax rates going. Another Dem thanks - and the county is raising our property tax to pay for the idiot stadiums (again). As many wrote to the local paper - and why must my property tax go up to pay for something I will never set foot in?

Liberals finding a million different ways and reasons to destroy the very foundations that make countries work for centuries and still think that their way is the best way.

Isn’t that the very definition of insanity?

  6. Keep voting democrat.  Keep supporting unions.

  7. Not sure which tax rates you’re talking about Wardmama, but in general NJ, NY, and CA lead the tax pack by far.

Property taxes in NJ are insane. Seriously insane. Pull up one of those real estate pages and take a look ... $10,000/year for a 4 bedroom house on 1/2 acre is not unusual or even limited to the very tony areas. Even out here in “rural” Hunterdon County. And that plain old 4 br house is on the market for $500,000. Put the same home in OH and it sells for $149,000 I bet. We “need” the killer taxes to pay for the 1/5 of the state who work for the governments, and to fund the “Abbot” schools in the urban ghettos. Those schools are total money holes; I swear they have gold plated urinals and every conceivable luxury, yet the kids there don’t learn a thing. NJ has the highest “per student” expenditure in the nation, though little of that cash actually impacts the students. Instead we have 591 school districts (not kidding: 591!!!), all with highly paid principals, supervisors, school boards, you name it. And the highest paid union janitors in the nation.

NJ cops make more than any other too; scoring a cop job in one of the peaceful sleepy little towns is the biggest coup in all of copdom. Fat fat income, no risks, no real crime, all gear provided, nothing to do but give out tickets when you feel like it.

NY property taxes are only a hair behind, but NY has special NYC tax, an income tax rate 5 times higher than NJ, and they soak you I think 75¢ per gallon of gas. Booze and smokes are also taxed blue in NY, even worse than NJ where it’s bad enough already.

  8. JayD in Kent where I lived the children sit a test at age 10-11 called the 11+ if they pass they go to a grammar school if they fail they go to a secondary modern. Elsewhere they all go to “comprehensives” The socialists, and this includes Camoron, have always hated this system and under a Labour government with Shirley Williams as education secretary in the 70’s they pretty much destroyed it for most of the country. They felt it reinforced the class system as mostly middle class kids passed, whereas working class generally didn’t.

However I am from a very much working class background and it gave me the opportunity to get a good academic education. The upper class (like Camoron) who went to Eton could care less as they can afford the best education. The idiots like Williams, Wedgwewood-Benn and the unspeakable Hattie Hatesmen all attended private schools. These hypocrites don’t want the oiks to have the opportunity to improve their chances.

The thing is when you lump them all together with Marxists from teacher training colleges and then dumb down the University entrance requirements the result is a devalued education system. People now go to University to get a degree in golf club management or similar nonsense degrees. Before “New Labour” there were traditional Universities which tended to excel in academic subjects and Poly Technics which were more closely allied to industry. Labour didn’t like this so they allowed any Mickey Mouse institution to call itself a “University” I could go on at extreme length about this but suffice to say the UK education system has been comprehensively buggered by the socialist scum.

  9. I would like to see US teacher take such a test. My bet is that they do even worse.

  10. Our friend got a letter from a teacher’s aide who didn’t understand “you’re vs. your”, or “two vs. too vs. to”.

  11. American teachers take a thorough and strict competency test unrivaled in the world.  If they pass it they are not allowed to teach anywhere, ever. Utopia is just around the corner comrades.
