Nigel: that’s because we’re not used to it. And it’s the same the world over. Aside from the 1 in 500 pretty pretty boys whom the ladies line up to take turns shagging, the rest of us don’t know what a compliment is from a woman. We don’t know how to handle it. Even now, more than a full generation after the “women’s movement”, things are no different. Oh, we’ve got “equal” coming at us from 11teen different directions, but that equality is mono-directional. Every last bit of cultural change has been placed on the males. Worse still, the mating dance hasn’t changed a whit. Except for when she says so. Which might be the morning after, when the police show up, because when she got home she changed her mind. Wait, it was always that way anyway wasn’t it? Never mind.
A younger guy I bowl with had this girlfriend. Fiance. 5 years in the relationship, living together, planning to get married this Spring. She turned into bridezilla and simply ate his soul. No respite. No fun. No time off. Every second of every day was wedding, wedding, wedding, wedding, wedding, and how he had to a,b,c,d,e,f,g, ...zzz, and change himself and improve himself in 1000 different ways. It was like instant mother-in-law, just add ring. He dumped her, and hooked up with a 19 year old who laughs, smiles, looks up to him, pays attention to him, wears outfits she knows he likes, and thinks what he says is worth listening to. At first my reaction was that he was a total cad. But when I thought about it, I realized he had done the right thing. The new girlfriend is not as pretty, nor as smart, nor as well employed, and has less potential than the old girlfriend in many ways, but she’s still a 500% improvement.

If you want em real pretty just spend the 500 bucks already. If ya want one permanent then get over yourself and find one that actually likes you and you like back,looks be damned.
It aint no simpler than that,,,But I bet I get a response to the contrary.
Im going back to stirring the pudding now,,,,,,,,,Just walk away from the whole fucking mess and let some other fool suffer.
