  1. Skipper, do you know (or can you find out?) how much the mats cost?  I’d love to contribute to mat drive for our troops.

  2. I already emailed them, the deal is on snopes and now making the news talk - and of course blogs - I suspect that this company is going to have a tough time. Although if you listen to the stupid msm, most of America will rally to their support, since the ‘majority’ of Americans are anti-war. So far, all I’ve seen is disgust toward the company and offers to SGT Hess. Only the one guy who responded to snopes ‘claimed’ that the (now fired) employee has received ‘angry and vicious’ emails. Not a one included with his ‘claim’.

According to one radio show, these are Pakistanis. I am so sick and tired of people attacking, talking down and being downright nasty and evil to anyone not crazy from the bds along with them.

You know what, I hated Clinton, detested the hildabeast but never could imagine calling him a liar on his policy, never imagine writing a play, book, op-ed or talk on radio about assassinating him, never imagine wanting to throw up on him - nor any of the completely lunatic spewings from the left re the sitting President of the US and of course the military that is allowing these people the freedom, they are abusing.

I vote recind their naturalization certificates and send them back to Pakistan, since they apparently hate the evil American empire - but I won’t hold my breath that all those involved are actual citizens.

  3. I don’t know how much the mats in question cost. I have a mat from Therma-Rest that I take on my camping trips. You can order them from REI:

    http://www.rei.com/online/store/Search?storeId=8000&vcat=REI_SEARCH&query=therma-rest&x=0&y=0

These mats are the best you can buy and prices start at $64 each. They are self-inflating and puncture-proof. Inner foam make them the best.

Check out http://www.iava.org for more information.

  4. We are at war.  We know the enemy.  During WWII Germans, Italians, Japanese, etal all faced higher scrutiny from others.

  5. Saw this first on Instapundit ... he links to milblogs and the guy was trying to order floor coverings for a conference room. According to milblog, “the situation is under control and thanks for all the help.”

According to them, Fox got it wrong about the sleeping mats and he’s hoping that they will correct the bad information.

Sent an e-mail to that company expressing my disapproval. It seems they have a “stock” reply that the person involved has been fired and that they in no way endorse what that person has said nor that opinion.

Be that as it may, due to one person’s actual stupidity, this particular company will live to rue the day.

  6. Ok, I found the IAVA site Skip, but I didn’t see anything about sleeping pads. Did I miss it somehow?

I’ve used the Therma-Rest pads myself, and they are way better than the old foam roll up pads you can get in the milsurp stores. Is there a preferred model/size? Does color matter? Are these things for field use or base use? And do they need the stuff sack? What units need them?

I know, this sounds annoying but it matters. I have one of the original Therma-Rest pads, and it really isn’t wide enough or long enough. And on rocky ground it isn’t thick enough either ... but there has to be a balance point between size/comfort and packability. I’ll drop REI and IAVA emails and see what they say.

Presidential candidates on the Second Amendment:

If you take Second Amendment issues into account when deciding whom to support, or if you simply are interested how the candidates will likely fare with an important bloc of voters, here’s a preliminary assessment of some of the people who have been listed as likely or definite candidates. As much as possible, the ratings are based on actions while in government, rather than on current rhetoric. Of course the list can also be read in reverse order, to assess the probable allegience of voters who are very strong gun control advocates. These rankings are subject to revision, as additional information is acquired.

Top tier. Nearly perfect pro-Second Amendment records: Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas). Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Former Gov. Jim Gilmore (R-Vir.). Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.).

Very good. Not a perfect record, but still a very positive one overall. Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.). Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.). Former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R-Wisc.). Former Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.). Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.).

Mixed: Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)(mostly positive record, except for lead sponsorship of two terrible bills: McCain-Lieberman, a badly-written bill which would have given the BATFE the authority to administratively eliminate any or all gun shows, and McCain-Feingold, the campaign speech restriction law which significantly affects right-to-arms groups).

Poor: Former Gov. George Pataki (R-N.Y.). Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.). As noted by, inter alia, the Boston Globe, Romney’s flip-flops on guns are part of a larger record of inconsistency.

Almost perfect anti-Second Amendment record: Former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.). Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). Former Vice-President Al Gore (in Congress, a nearly perfect pro-gun record until 1989, when he switched sides). Al Sharpton (D-N.Y.).

Record of anti-Second Amendment leadership: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.). Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.). Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.)(very effective in pushing gun control during his tenure as Judiciary Committee chairman). Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio). Gov. Tom Vilsack (D-Iowa). Former Mayor Rudy Guliani (R-N.Y.)(even worse than his predecessor, Democrat David Dinkins; indeed, based on his record, arguably worse than Sen. Clinton).

  8. The local TV are playing up the “bigot” angle on this story.  Gently lit shot of the owner’s father saying what a great and loyal immigrant Americans he and his family are then cut to the answering machine with the “F**king Arabs!!!” playing over and over with captions on screen.

Once again, MIlwaukee proves itself to be only slightly less lefty than Madison or San Francisco.

I gotta get out of this fucking town.

  9. As of this morning the site was down and the bastard is out of business, netwise.  I can only hope there is a tree somewhere waiting patiently for an occupant....

  10. Why is it so easy to dislike Moslems, both here and abroad?  This is another step on the way to a major religious conflict.

btw - an Anonymous poster left a commentary on the Mosque vandalism post.  If he doesn’t like what’s happening, he ought to do something more than call people names.  I’d like to see a better solution to our growing problems, but with the breakdown in civil debate between opposing sides there will be no other answer but violence.
