  1. My daughter has a friend in PA who is an, what is it ornithologist? Yeah that’s it. If you email the pics I can forward to her and she will send it to him (if no one on the site identifies it). Looks more hawk like to me - but what do I know - it’s been a solid 40 years since my MT days of watching osprey and other assorted wild animals up close and personal.

Speaking of turkeys was dive bombed by one in KY - I saw the shadow first and thought it was a small glider plane - the wild ones are huge - after he landed I was quite impressed at how damn big he was.

  2. For what its worth we’ve got buttloads of the red-tailed hawks (RTH) around here (SE Missouri), so I see them hunting, pouncing, and eating (full-grown rabbits, usually) quite often. Its a real treat to see them veer and swoop and maneuver in pursuit of a dodging coney. They’re amazing....

That photo does not fit the average appearance of any RTH I’ve seen. Too much white around the neck, and the colors are a bit to uniform. Different hawk species? Or an eagle of some kind? Or just a variation of a RTH I haven’t laid eyes on yet?

I’m hopeful wardmama’s expert will clarify this.
