I’m surprised that this is news.
Chariot racing was big business/sports back then. The fans were members of ‘factions’. They supported the ‘Greens’, ‘Blues’, etc. Then if some rich and powerful person, say a Senator, or the Emperor, was a ‘fan’ and supporter, well, you’d better win, and often.
Sigh… wish history was taught properly. Most of today’s welfare recipients live better than the emperors of Rome. Don’t believe me? Two words: air conditioning. Plus, you don’t see many fat Roman emperors depicted in art or coinage.
Bet he, like Tiger, has his pick of women, or, well, boys perhaps, being Rome and all…
