Lots of people suffer from fall sinus problems, myself included. Antibiotics are needed if you develop an infection, often allergy based. However, GUAIFENISEN is a substance that loosens the mucus and helps it to be expelled. It is good for chest congestion. Another possible aid is the Netti Pot, used for warm water salt rinses. I add Xylitol to mine, which helps fight infection the same way D-Mannose works for bladder infections. Good luck.
I’ve been using something like a netti pot. The NeilMed Sinus Rinse, “developed by Dr. Mehta”, which is a squeeze bottle with a nose plug on the cap. You make up a mix of warm distilled water, a little salt, and a little baking soda, and give your nose a blast. It’s a little bit like self-waterboarding, shooting a whole cup of water up the old schnoz. And it works, for about an hour or two.
Guaifenisen is the shiz, usually. That’s the medicine that’s in Mucinex. All I know about Xylitol is that it’s a sugar substitute made from birch bark.
Have you considered a mold allergy - that’s mine. I got really, really sick in Germany and that is how I discovered it - going from there to KY - I was practically dead in the fall. In TX (where rain is considered a gift from God) I was good to go. Back here now, I’m feeling like something the cat spewed most days. I’ve always said I wish it were 20 and snowing than 40 and rainy. It hits me hard. I am lucky though - my hubby runs the gambit - except for me and the kids, he seems to be allergic to most things.
I get some assist from Zicam Allergy Relief (nose spray) I just have to use it on these cool, moist days - every day or I’m back at the beginning.
I might have to consider one of those pots - I’ve taken to going to the local Whole Foods for my meds. What ever ‘flavor’ or coating they are putting in OTCs now - knock me into headache land instantly - and of course I can’t take asprin so I read labels for a long time when I shop in standard stores.
Hope you feel better soon buddy.
So your the SOB that gave me this nasty bug.Shame on you Drew
