  1. The only “N” word that isn’t used enough in America is “NO” and that’s the one word the pols pretend they can’t hear.

  2. Somebody better inform Sen. Richard Byrd (D-KKK) to be careful in Westchester County, NY. cheese

  3. Uh is it just me, or are the only people using the ‘N’ word - blacks themselves? The exact last time I heard a white person say it (not use it) was in the OJ trial to paint Fuhrman as a racist who set OJ up. I guess that means using the ‘N’ word works for blacks.

And isn’t this ‘resolution’ a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution - oh yeah getting just by with that ‘Congress will not enact’ - I guess the local PC Police can do anything they damn well want. Where do I send my donation to the Supreme Court case on the Constitutionality of this stupid resolution?

And how damn long are we going to have to listen to the blacks whine about how crappily their ancestors (we are 141 years post emancipation, and 41 years post civil rights act)were treated? [Aside here, given what I know about Africa, they were taken over long before America got involved in the mix (like 3300BC) and given the state of affairs over most of the continent now - it was and is just like America - black on black violence is more prevelant than white on black violence. And whites are to blame how?] Heck that is 2.5 generations (42 years) at least for most blacks today just from the civil rights acts (using a more generous 20 years - its 7 generations from emancipation) - this is just so damn stupid and racist.

Oops there I go being racist again. My Bad.

  4. In Britain someone got in trouble for using the word niggardly. Sad but true. The morons that drive political correctness are both silly and ignorant.

  5. Brazoria County, which is close to Houston is considering this ... Houston Chronicle

The ordinance wouldn’t forbid anyone from saying the word, Corley said, but just using the word in an offensive or aggressive manner. Violators would be charged with disturbing the peace, he said.

Hmm, who defines offensive or aggresive? Tin foil hats anyone? Because the next logical step is ‘Thought Police’.

  7. <font size="3">"I would recommend we all just ignore it."—Skipper</font><font size="3">Ya know, that suggestion reminds me of a suggestion I've offered to all within earshot the past 20 years</font> <font size="3">regarding the best "reaction" to groups like neo-nazis who demand occassional street "forums"—elicting counter-demos, TV cameras, etc.  TRY THIS: I-g-n-o-r-e the bastards -- literally.  Without an audience or any publicity they'd get bored/frustrated pretty quickly, mumble a while then crawl back in their hole.  i.e., DON'T give them what they want.</font>

  8. IMO, the word is gradually losing its sting among Blacks.  My mother and father grew up in Georgia in the 1930s.  To them, “nigger” was the worst of profanities, because when a white person called them by that name, it totally sapped them of their dignity; worse yet, they couldn’t say anything back to them in response.

As I grew up in the 70s, people like Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx regularly used the term in a humorous context.  This greatly reduced the stigma surrounding the word, so it became a part of my regular lexicon.  Most of the Black children that I know (including my own), freely call each other “niggas”, a variation of the term.  They even call their white friends niggas, since it’s more of a generic term nowadays.

The other day, I slipped up and call one of my kids a little “nigga” in front of my mother.  Even though she’s in her late 70’s, she grabbed her cane, and threatened to thrash me--for using a “curse word in front of [her] grandchildren.” My kids were quite entertained seeing my mother fussing at their 49-year-old dad.  But I could tell that my mother was quite offended by addressing my children in such a manner.

I’d therefore say that mainly older Blacks are the ones who have a problem with the term.  And don’t forget that there are race-baiters out there who want to make a living from keeping the shit shook up.

All in all, though, I agree with the Skipper: if we leave people alone for a couple more generations, the term won’t have any special meaning.  It doesn’t matter whether they make the word illegal or not; in time, it’s going to die off anyway.

  9. Free speech and other constitutional rights continue to elude our elected representatives.  There should be a test for all political candidates to make sure they know what county they live in before letting them run for office
