I always rinse jasmine rice. 4 or 5 times.
I’ll rinse Basmati rice too if I bought it from a local asian food market.
Jasmine needs to be rinsed just reduce its gluten content. Otherwise it’ll be a mushy mass instead of a sticky rice.
Both jasmine and basmati should be rinsed because both are sometimes packed with talc to prevent clumping. Talc won’t hurt you if you eat it, but it’s not my first choice.

Seems to me that you should be very interested in tasty food preparation. Might be a good thing if you had some decent, home-made, goodies ready for one of your weed-induced munchie-sessions. Otherwise, you’re stuck with a bag of Cheetos, Doritos, etc.
Home-made munchies are better.
