This is about the dumbest security breach that I’ve heard about in years. The Times doesn’t state, but I’m assuming that someone has tracked the drives to their original owners and is having a quiet talk with them behind the woodshed. Anyone got a follow up on this?
This sounds like tales I have heard from Viet Nam vets who, while not having computer gear to be stolen, did lose personal stuff and, at times, weapons, to hooch maids and other assorted IP support staff.
Gotta take care, boyz n girrrlz!
How about not letting the locals on base, or not letting them into the data tent? This is just stupid! OTOH, it comes from the LA Times, so I question it a bit. But still!! Arrrgggghhh!!
Just goes to show, all the technical security precautions are meaningless, when the weak link in the chain is ”humint” (human intelligence). Loose lips sink ships, etc…
Packets of Viagra?!?!
You know, that really is all we need: a bunch of Afghans with morals such as these running around with gigantic.....oh, never mind.
Refrigerators? Is ANYONE minding the shop or are they too busy with their Viagra?!?!?! I guess you have to be careful of that stuff, use one and lose the rest of the packets. And your refrigerator.
It makes you wonder why ANYONE would EVER think that the witness protection program was a good idea. I trusted the local government here to keep my identity and address a secret from sort of a nutty/violent family that is involved with the social system here. Naturally, it was the govt that eventually mailed my name/address/phone number right to their house. Forgot to block it out......ugh!
Time honored tradition over there (and elsewhere). Take what you can (they’ll never miss it and they have so much!)
They don’t think anything about it as evidenced by their selling it at the bazaar close to the base. I’d like to think that someone over there realizes what is going on and is at least buying it back!
You would, however, think that the powers that be would have a little better handle on it, though.
Do they sell farting chairs?
I want one.
