  1. I’ll grant you that I don’t think of myself as extraordinarily stupid, but I don’t think I’m a genius either. And yet I have figured out that if you try to make all the world idiot proof, all you accomplish is to encourage people to become idiots.

Since to my certain knowledge someone of no more than ordinary intelligence and education can figure this out simply by observation, I can’t help thinking that it must be intentional. I mean, a group of several hundred very intelligent, very well educated people with *incredible* amounts of information at their fingertips cannot have failed to notice the effect it has. A society whose majority is rendered helpless by their own extreme ignorance must be the goal they are trying to achieve.

As Heinlein said, consistent results are never accidental.

  2. Again, two thoughts.

    1) When you have so many people so intent on something unrelated to the world around them, it’s a wonderful opportunity for pickpockets and muggers.

    2)

frankly, I’m thinking we take it a step further. Helmets and face guards.

A perfect idea.  After all, we have mandatory seat belt laws, mandatory air bag laws, bicycle helmet laws and other laws protecting us from ourselves ad nauseum, why not helmet and face guard laws to protect the texters?  After all, after hitting a padded lamp post, they may still fall down and the sidewalk is very hard.  They might suffer a brain injury that could have been prevented if only they’d been wearing a helmet.  If it only saves one, isn’t it worth it?
