  1. I think you are wrong on this Skipper. Field trip cancelled, the kids should have been in class. BTW, who caught them? A truancy officer? How did the school find out? I know when me and my girlfriend were seniors, we got to go on half-days at school. Two weeks till graduation and all tests passed. We managed a little nookie here and there. Only once at my house. Believe me, I made sure the dog was tied in the front yard to bark in case Mom came home from work early. But we were on half-days. Just neglected to tell our parents… School rules didn’t apply.

  2. This has nothing to do with the school. The school angle is just a smokescreen to hide the fact that the parents of both kids are negligent for not teaching said younglings INTEGRITY. Too late now. Sad, sad, sad.

  3. I guess it will get down to what is the definition of “Sex” ? If it was a hummer, he may get relief twice in one day! grin

  4. He signed a contract with the school to attend an off-campus event and behave in a certain way.  When his off-campus event was cancelled, he was obligated to report back to school, not goof off.  In the meantime, he was, by contract, under school rules.  He and his parents apparently need a lesson on keeping an agreement and acting like responsible adults.

I once had an employee who was given time off during the workday to attend a class twice a week in another town.  One week, both classes were postponed, and rather than return to work, the employee chose to hang around a joint in the other town.  He was seen, confronted with his behavior, tried to justify it as his own time, and was fired for his trouble.  This student Don Juan likewise broke an agreement.

  5. Getting caught playing “hooky”? - yeah, they’re busted.  Having consentual sex in their private residence? - I don’t know.  Hmmm...kinda’ hard to ascertain how far the school district has authority here without knowing the exact conditions of the in loco parentis circumstances in this case.

I will say that this incident reeks of chickensh_t, though… barf

  6. Sorry, the point of this was the signed consent giving permission to leave school for lunch. The kid signed it with his parent - end of story. Legally he was ‘on school time’ and therefore they are responsible for his behavior. The school event was a red herring to imply that he would have been ‘off campus’ anyway - cancelled, so what, once again he was ‘on school time’ - he loses. And I’m glad to see a high school that 1)makes kids & parent sign for off campus lunch - most don’t 2)standing up to stop sex during school hours (I know how really unpopular that has been since the ‘make love, not war’ 60s) but as a parent - I support it.

Now my only question is - how did the school find out about it? And yes, was little miss co-partner in crime suspended too? Actually she might be in bigger trouble if she did not have a signed ‘off campus lunch’ permit - as included in her ‘on school time’ behavior infraction, she also has a skipping school infraction.

‘Rest of school year’ right now is 4 weeks or less - depending on the school system. Sounds like the middle school kid who got suspended on the last day of school and came back and shot the teacher - when you screw up (no pun intended) our little kings and princesses need to learn that there are consequences.

And part of this goes to parents, school counselors and college admission garbage that imply any negative on your vaulted ‘high school record’ will impact negatively on your chances to get accepted to college. Even if you kill your mother (or work for the Taliban) you can get into Harvard - doubt the local or state U has even more stringent poliicies.

  7. What I want to know is, did the pair use a school supplied condom?  If so, the school has no legal grounds to suspend either of them since they likely were applying knowledge given by a schoolteacher and studying practical application of their education.  After all, in the real world, proper use of their education will result in good responsible behavior and the ability to score those great high paying jobs that they are entitled to.  Perhaps the school found out when one of these obviously bright and attentive students attempted to obtain extra credit for their extracurricular activity.

If I put any more sarcasm into this I will likely throw up.

  8. I hate to disagree with you ‘mama, but I think its a bit presumptuous to say whether the school was right or wrong without knowing the exact details of the case and exactly how many and to what extent the parents signed away their rights at any given time.

I am of mixed opinion when it comes to the power that many school districts have come to wield nowadays.  What I am certain of (and I think you’ll agree with me here) is that school districts didn’t get to be as intrusive and powerful as they are because of parent responsibility.  Quite the opposite, I’m sure.  Pretty sure that’s what happened here...parents fail to keep the kids in check, so the school steps in to take over in the “parenting” role.

Sad, but there you have it.  I suspect the parent’s outrage is at least partly a diversion from accepting responsibiliy for their kid’s actions.
