  1. Hahahahehehe!

Harry Reid calls Pres. Bush a loser… bwhahahaha!

Can Sen. Reid tell me the last time a Republican President increased his majorities in both Houses...(take a breath… gasp! gurgle!)

Even Renaldus Magnus didn’t do that...Hahahaha!  LOL

Posted by Christopher    United States   05/07/2005  at  06:02 PM

  2. 1.  The fact that this question even comes up to contemplate infuriates me. Sure enough many abroad think our president is a ‘loser’, but to have one of our senators - with a clear case of Alzheimer’s - skimming the scum of diplomatic sycophantic brown-nosing to gain favor by bashing our president smacks of treason to me.  Reprimand?  His behavior is not befitting that of his office:  Let the military handle this ass.  Our presidents do not bash one another after they leave office - it should be implicit that the congress follow the same decorum.

    2.  I would say ‘all three’, but then I realize I don’t know the facts.  I believe our soldiers have the best armor.  I believe strategies for fighting the insurgents are constantly shifting to keep up with the insurgents’ constant fluidity in keeping up with us.  And I think there is a lot more behind-the-scenes action on our part than our public is made aware of - you know, so the secular leftists won’t cry foul at our ‘unfair’ tactics.  So, since our media refuses to glorify the soldiers, I would pick (C) so at least the guys would get a modicum of much-needed strokes from home to keep up morale.
There is something so wrong with the media that they cannot champion soldiers fighting in the name of our country.

    3.  No.  But I would be in favor of their presence on the border.  We could save money by building a wall like the Israelis did.  I had two acquaintances from my town killed two weeks ago, the same week, by illegal Hispanics without drivers’ licenses running stop signs.  Both women were killed on the scene.  In separate incidents.  One girl was a good friend I taught with for years.

    4.  Democrats regaining the confidence of the American people?  They can admit that a society cannot function without an underclass.  Do I care if they ever regain confidence?  Yes.  Revenge fighting in the government is a waste of money, a waste of faith in our government just when we need it, and a waste of respect on all parts.  When people lose any of those components, they don’t bother to vote.  Then, the best man might not win.

    5.  Filibusters:  Let’s get real.  How about acting mature and voting up or down.  A filibuster is a little-kid tactic:  I’m not coming out ‘til you give me my balls back!

    6.  This is about golf, right?  Then, no.  Tiger should be allowed to keep his balls in the game as long as possible.

  3. I’ll answer the question about the asteroid impact, since it is yet untouched.  It is a question I’ve had to deal with before.

Frankly, I think I would do these three things under the circumstances.

    (1) Get a chaise lounge and a supply of my favorite adult beverages.

    (2) Find a good observation place and set up shop with the lounge and beverages.

    (3) Watch the universal panic, like Professor Barnhardt in The Day the Earth Stood Still.

I can think of no more reasonable course of action under such circumstances.

  4. Oh, Tanny,

I missed that one.  Ever read “On the Beach” by Nevil Shute?

Wanna run away with me and find a submarine?

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  07:56 PM

  5. Hi Phoenix, I have Shute’s book, and I also have a VHS of the movie.  Gregory Peck played the submarine skipper, and Ava Gardner played his Australian lady.

By all means, see The Day the Earth Stood Still. Along with Forbidden Planet, it must be the most intelligent sci-fi movie ever released.  Star Trek, from the beginning to this day, owes those two films its entire raison d’etre.

Run away with you and find a submarine?  If you can drive it, I’ll be glad to serve as torpedo officer.

  6. PHOENIX & TANNY:

    KLAATU .. BAR’ADA, NIKTOH!

  7. 1) Are public executions to extreme?

    2) Is the use of nuclear weapons unacceptable?

    3) As long as I’m not in the Army at the time.

    4) No! I don’t really care if they do.

    5) All the possibilities. Where to start?

    6) Should not the majority have the say so?

    7) The Cubs SUCK!!! So do the Yankees!!!

  8. ALL: I also have “Forbidden Planet” on DVD. Tonight, I’m watching “Hotel Rwanda” on DVD. Critique to follow ....

Posted by The Skipper    United States   05/07/2005  at  08:11 PM

  9. Something tells me, Skipper, that when we get Steel back, he’s going to come out like Gort....can you confirm?

    LOL

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  08:13 PM

  10. Captain:  What is that language, and what does it say?

I always heard “Planet of the Apes”, the original was one of the best sci fi movies.

Captain:  I watched a special on Rwanda on its tenth anniversary.  I think I went into shock.
The photographer who photographed much of the horror came back at the behest of National Geographic to talk of his experience.  He was unable to complete his expose - while on camera - and indicated he had been stricken with PTSD after walking out of a Catholic church where hundreds of Rwandans went to hide and were subsequently slaughtered like animals caught in a cage.  He said he’s never picked up a camera since, and has had to maintain close association with his doctors ever since.  Made me cry.  I don’t think I could watch the movie.

  11. Tanny,

Never driven a sub before, but I figure to just let the ballast out and sink to the bottom for a while.  I don’t think we’d need torpedoes.

Um… Saw the movie.  It didn’t seem real.  Not that the book was real....but it was VERY real while you were reading it.  Then Hollywood kind of ruined it by that overly long smooch at the end.  Didn’t that kiss seem to go on forever??

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  08:47 PM

  12. I find it ironic that man hailed from the African continent, and that now modern man treats the humanity of that continent as so much detritus as to allow Malthusian Theory to take over so our UN can steal money from humanitarian programs designed to protect the very people they claim to serve.

    Simplistic, but true.

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  08:56 PM

  13. Tan, Phoenix,
“On the Beach” is one of my favorite fictional books of all time.
    It’s creepy as hell though.

As for my beloved Cubbies-well they’ve lost 7-yes SEVEN -in a row.
It’s only May and they’ve already imploded-in fact I’ve ALREADY dragged out my Steve Goodman.
*go to my placeand check out “baseball blues”.
Answer-Maybe when MY grandchildren have grandchildren. rolleyes

Posted by Annoying Little Twerp    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:05 PM

  14. Hi Phoenix, if it my last smooch, I’d want it to go on forever, so it didn’t strike me as too long.  But then, that’s just me.

Planet of the Apes is an intelligent film indeed.  I’d have to rate it among the top five.

But now, before the Skipper gets after us, we have to let ballast in, not out, if we want to dive the boat.  We’d blow the ballast out when we want to surface.

Our own private Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea? Sounds intriguing....

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:06 PM

  15. Dammit all, I left out a word again!  Should have been “if it WAS my last smooch...!”

    Grrrrrrr.....

    LOL

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:07 PM

  16. Hi Barb, On the Beach is creepy indeed, but Lord of the Flies is a lot creepier.  That is probably the most disturbing book I ever read.

I sympathize with you on behalf of the Cubs.  Just think of what it means to be a Detroit Tiger fan through thick and thin, as I have been, since 1961.  Very little thick, and way too much thin....

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:18 PM

  17. Doncha just hate it when you leave out a word or misspell one.  Dang.

Um.  I knew about the ballast.  hahahaha!!  I was jus’ seein’ if you did, Tanny.  humph.. talk about feeling dumb...as much canoeing as I’ve done in my life, I know ALL about ballast.
Just got it backwards this time.

Bring some Vienna sausage.  And Twinkies.

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:21 PM

  18. Fine by me, m’lady.  But do we get the sub from the Skipper, or do we have to “procure” it ourselves?  I’m out of practice on requisitioning.  And anyway, I’m not as slick as I used to be, so I might get caught this time.

    LOL

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:29 PM

  19. Ohmygod… I taught Lord of the Flies for twenty years.  ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN.

On the Beach - yes, Twerp - REALLY creepy..

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:29 PM

  20. Tanny,

An asteroid is coming.  I’m not into waiting to requisition anything.  We’re stealing it.

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:36 PM

  21. Yes, Phoenix, Lord of the Flies is one of the greatest books ever written, indeed.

No other book, in my experience, ever came so close to unveiling the elementary basis of the subconscious mind that lurks inside us all.

“The beast, the mindless primitive,” simply awaiting to erupt in us all, once our thin veneer of civilization is stripped away.

(Quoted dialogue courtesy of Morbius in Forbidden Planet).

I take it you taught literature?

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:38 PM

  22. Stealing the boat it is, then.

    (Wipes nervous sweat from forehead)

I only hope we don’t get hoisted to the yardarm for our efforts.

    smile

  23. LADIES & GERMS:

    YOUR ATTENTION, PLEASE!

The Yellow Submarine has just left drydock ..

    tune
In the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed the seas ....

Posted by The Skipper    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:49 PM

  24. I was thinking more along the lines of Operation Petticoat, Skipper, since I was kernoodling myself into Cary Grant’s position more or less.

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  09:52 PM

  25. And Phoenix, it just struck me how dumb that line “I take it you taught literature” sounded.  I should have said, “I take it that literature was your specialty as a teacher,” or something like that, for that’s what I actually meant.

Good heavens, what a bloody fool I can be at times!  I apologize with all my heart.  Please forgive me....

    red face

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:05 PM

  26. Tanny,

    WTF is ‘kernoodling’?  hahaha..

    I didn’t teach literature; I lived it.

Now have you got the Vienners and the Twinkies?

You bringin’ your piana?  We could probably do with some tunes.  Can you play “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”?

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:10 PM

  27. (sigh of relief)

“Kernoodling” is a slang term I ran across years ago.  When you “kernoodle” your way into something, you deviously insinuate yourself into it.

And I wholeheartedly believe that you live literature as well as teach it.

Yes ma’am, I have the Vienners and Twinkies, and some other supplies as well.

If we can make do with my stage keyboard rig, we can have music enough (no room in my place for a regular piano, so I’ve never owned one).

I do play “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Nice distinctive melody, doesn’t need lyrics to be recognized, and it makes a good nightclub two-step.

Now when do we put to sea?

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:18 PM

  28. Captain Tanster:

First things first.  We have no idea when the asteroid will hit.  The best we can do is prepare our Vienners and Twinkies.  Maybe some Ho-Ho’s as well.  Now what other supplies have you garnered.  Sex toys?  HAH !!  I bet you have you kernoodling DooDah Man.

I LOVE the two-step.  Coolest dance ever.  Probably just as well as I hear subs are very narrow.  Reckon we’ll have to lose our cowboys hats.

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:23 PM

  29. We have to wait until we know when the asteroid will hit, do we?

What a mob there will be, trying to book passage on the last sub out.

So much for trying to get the jump on things....

    Phoenix, you are absolutely precious.

Got to call it a night.  Take care K?

    Ciao for now.

    wink

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:38 PM

  30. Good night, my Captain.... sleep well.....

Posted by Phoenix    United States   05/07/2005  at  10:41 PM

  31. Here are my answers:
1.Should Democratic politicians be reprimanded for publicly calling the President names while he is overseas trying to build diplomatic relations with other countries.
Yes! Unless it is a dem President on an apology tour like the ones Klinton did a lot of. Remeber how he ran all over the place apologizing for America ! Grrrrr!

2.If you were a US soldier in Iraq, which would be more important to you....
I want to pick one that is not there. heh heh.....I would want the military to fight this war and any war without the liberal media and military haters in politics and the citizens telling me as a person serving my county how to fight the war, when to shoot a bad guy ( the enemy) and leave the miltary alone to do what they know how to do better then anyone. Our Military ROCKS and I get outraged when the liberals put their unwanted two cents in where it does not belong.

3.Would you be in favor of the US Army being deployed along the Mexican border with orders to “shoot-to-kill” any illegal aliens crossing the border?

Sure but not told to shoot to kill. Just keep the laws that are already existing in our land that the politicians want to disobey now. My parents came here long ago from Switzerland the way a person is supposed to not by crossing over the border in the night paying some jerk $10,000.

4.The Democratic Party is steadily losing ground.GOOD What can they do to regain the confidence of the American people? They can’t, never will, it is not in their makeup to do honorable and good Americans. They are the party of Michael Moore, Kerry, Hanoi Jane , the Kennedy’s etc.Do you care if they ever do? No I could care less, but they do feed my anger on a daily bases. LOL

    5. If you knew the world as we know it was going to end tomorrow from an asteroid collision, what three things would you do today?

I pray every day,but I would say a special prayer that it would not happen. Then I would walk through our home and do what I like to do such as look at photos of family and friends, hug a few of my teddybears, my puppy and kitty and then walk outside and sit on the patio and appredciate how truly beautiful God’s creation of nature is and thank God again for being alive and able to enjoy such things. Then I would go back in the house, light the fireplace, tons of candles and make mad passionate love to my husband till the end came with that big bad asteroid.

    5. Is the filibuster a good or a bad thing to have in the Senate?
The movie “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” with Jimmy Stewart was a good moive about this subject. It was included in the film.I think 60 Votes is fair. You see it works both ways, it depends WHO is in the majority as to if I like it or not. hahahahaha It IS a way of checks and balances so in the end it can work to the Republicans favor if we manage to keep the Majority vote.

6.Will the Cubs ever win the World Series? I hope and pray they will ! I was born in Illinois so I have been a Cubbie fan all my life ! When? God said he would not let us know ahead of time. ( giggle)Should George Steinbrenner be allowed to keep buying championships for the Yankees?
Grrrr Steinbrenner, well the sad fact is that money buys the better ball players and baseball has become a business as much as it is a sport.  waaaaaa Maybe his wrist will fall off and he really will have to stop writing all those checks !

LOVE Baseball ! Three cheers for my Cubbies !

  32. Skipper, you never did answer Phoenix’s question about “Klaatu barada nikhto,” and you never enlightened us as to whether or not Steel would come back looking like Gort.

Before this thread drifts off the front page, can you help us out here?  Many thanks.
