  1. I said it before and I’ll say it again.  If they want to build a shining city on a hill, it helps to build the hill first.

    Idiots!

  2. I’ve seen white rats in a Skinner Box catch on quicker.

  3. A watchdog committee?  A brigade of IRS auditors could not handle such a mess!

I wonder if anyone is even thinking about Peter the Great, who could teach these clowns a few things about building a city in the midst of a marshy, disease-ridden slough.

    wink

  4. Also people were eaten by wolves in Beautiful Downtown St. Petersburg. This greatly amused Peter The Great.

“The Great” is appended to a sovereign’s name whenever his victims’ bodies exceeds the mass of The Great Pyramid of Giza.

  5. Ah, the viewpoint of a gourmand on one hand, and a cynic on the other?  LOL

Frankly, Oink, if I saw wolves eating certain specimens in Beautiful Downtown D.C., I might not be amused, but I think I could bring myself to view the matter with a certain detachment.

Now, you are a bit too pessimistic about how sovereigns earn the title of “The Great.”

I admit that Alfred the Great of Saxon England, for example, hanged a good many judges and lawyers, but (unfortunately) not enough to even approach the mass of the Giza Pyramid.

I leave Mao the Great and Stalin the Great to your analysis.

    wink

  6. Tan: Wolves aren’t picky enough about whom they eat.
Mao & Stalin were sui generis. http://www.google.com/ tongue wink
Thank God they were Communists—if they were Right Wingers who knows what they might have done!

  7. I can only suggest this much, Oink.  If Moose Dung and Stalin had been right-wingers, we would hear a thousand times more about them than we do now.

And by the way, not being picky helps a wolf when dining in D.C.  The menu isn’t exactly for the gastronome, you know....

    LOL

  8. OCM: I gave up three days of my “vacation” and spent the time loading, unloading and helping distribute water and canned goods in Mississippi. In addition to that, I have made several recommendations regarding cleaning up New Orleans and rebuilding the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Not that anyone actually listened.

  9. If the government gave me money to build a nice home, I would like very much to build it

at sea level. If, on the other hand, I had to use my own money.....I’d prefer to build on

    solid ground.

  10. I have one really good idea but it makes too much sense to ever be used. Hire a large civilian group of people from the ranks of the unemployed (kinda like the CCC and the NRA during the depression) and put them to work digging a long, wide, deep moat along our border with Mexico. Take the dirt from the BIG DITCH and haul it to the Gulf Coast and use it to (a) fill in New Orleans to a height above sea level and (b) build a long seawall along the coast to stop tidal surges and slow down hurricanes. Hell, we could even hire some of the illegal Mexicans to help build the BIG DITCH then toss them over it to the other side. Filling the BIG DITCH with crocodiles would be something we might also consider at a later date.

The only other good plan I could offer would be to establish Hurricane Camps in Memphis, Nashville and Little Rock with train lines connecting these cities to “evacuation points” along the coast. When a storn is imminent, the trains load up and carry everyone out to temporary camps until the worst is over. No traffic jams and no one left behind. During months when hurricanes are no problem the trains could pay for themselves by carrying tourists from the midwest to the Gulf beaches. The hurricane camps could also double as military training centers when not in use for evacuations.

  11. Kudos for you, Allan, for your efforts in helping after Katrina...........The people living in New Orleans must know that living below sea level is an accident waiting to happen.........and it has, big time.............The people living along the Mississippi & Alabama coast know the perils living there, yet they rebuild..........

Here in St. Louis we had a major flood in the Chesterfield valley a few years ago.......Now there has been multibillion dollars spent in rebuilding with the so-called knowledge that the levees are a 500 year safety - yeah, right - does Mother Nature know this?????  One should never fool with Mother Nature - what will happen, will happen, no matter how many millions of dollars the local, state & national governments spend to “protect” our lands..........
