  1. To get to New Orleans Louisiana from Decatur Alabama BY WATER you have to go north on the Tennessee River to Paducah Kentucky, pick up the Ohio River heading west, join the Mississippi River at Cairo Illinois, and then head downriver. It’s a regular Mike Fink adventure, only hopefully without the river pirates.

That’s why this ship was far north of Decatur AL and many hundred miles north of New Orleans LA.

The Delta IV booster is too large to travel by truck or train.

  2. We have to cross that bridge from Aurora when my cousin and I go bass fishing in Ky. Lake. That boat just turned our 1-2 mile commute into 25 miles.

    Rats.

  3. I recall in my youth I worked on the Mississippi for a tugboat company. One of the boat “skippers” was a drunk. We had to move a fertilizer barge for unloading. For those of you who are not familiar there things are big. If memory serves they were 50’ wide and 300’ long and a draft about 18’ The normal barges were 35’ wide and 200’ long. This clown decided he would fmove the barge with the tug upstream ie the worst possible place as the draft of the tug was about 5’ So the prop wash went against the flat face of the barge. The smart thing to do was have the tug downstream, but this fool wouldn’t be told. We came within a few feet of taking out a relatively busy bridge at about 8am during what was for them a “rush hour”. It was a very scary experience. Had we lost power the bridge would have gone over for sure. As it was it came far too close for comfort. Not something I wish to repeat.
