Return To Sender

  1. The opting out for junk mail is a travesty - I’ve probably gotten it to work for 5 minutes, there is almost no way to return to sender the majority of junk mail. Using their crappy ‘prepaid’ envelops with their offers shredded up, coupons or go to hell scrawled on it - just doesn’t work as the offer send section is never up-dated by the mail reception center. And the PO doesn’t help in the fight as this is their prime driver of raising prices every so often.

Typical bureacracy - feeds on itself until the whole society collapses.

And I bet if anyone was receiving benefits from Social Security - they are still sending checks. Worse one for denying legitimate claims faster than an insurance company, cutting a legitimate claim holder for earning a penny more than the bottom line but continuing to send to no longer legally eligible until hell freezes over.

  2. Once upon a time the Post Office was the shining star of the government. Well run and cost effective, they did their job so well that UPS, et al, barely survived. Then came junk mail, bulk mail discounts, and idiotic management. Now we use the phrase Going Postal to indicate insanity.

Get rid of bulk mail discounts and the junk mail will dry up overnight. That will reduce the volume of mail probably 70%. Everybody hates junk mail ... its mere existance is a large indication that the government really is working for the corporations not the people. Equality under the law: if I have to pay .37 to send a letter then so does everybody else even if they send 10 million of them at a time. Once again, it really is that simple.

It would take an hour or three to sweep even the largest database of this zipcode. It should have been done 5 years ago. If I were USPS I would announce today that any mail sent to that zip would go straight to recycling effective January 1 2007. Enough already.

  3. Drew, I’d make exception only for bona fide charities. But, yes, bulk mail is pretty much nothing but fire starter to me.

  4. Why can’t the Sorting machines/(people at the smaller post offices) be set to reject mail addressed to 10048 and have it sent back to the sender at the sending post office instead of waiting for it to get to the Church Street Station is beyond me..
