  1. Actually it was a movie with Glen Miller in it that got me all into playin the clarinet and sax.Sadly by the time I was 12 I was into other things and never got that skill sewn into my brain.Still love sax players though.

  2. Rich, do you recall a player named Flip Phillips, in the 50s and maybe early 60’s.

    Coleman Hawkens was a great player. I mean, super great. There were so many in the early days of jazz and swing.  I started on Clarinet and just couldn’t get the hang of it.
    My other great love being Cornet/Trumpet ... and the guys who made great and wonderful noise with same.  Alas ... sighs .... Talent stood in my way.  As in, lack of it.
    But thankfully I was still able to work in that industry and loved every minute.
    Oh yeah ... LOVE the Dobro (which I can not play) and 5 string Banjo. Oh yeah, Fiddle too.
    And Gene Krupa ... Damn, you mentioned Glenn Miller and set this off.  It’s all your fault.
