1. I think there will be riots by Obama’s supporters even if he WINS...you know that massive Election Night rally in Grant Park in the Народный Социалистический Город-Государство Чикаго? Perfect place to start it all if you ask me.

  3. So is this intimidation (threaten riots)to supress the Right’s vote or a set-up to instruct the masses on what to do if Obama loses?

This Obama will stoop to no lower low nor go to any length to win the election - and excuse me, but isn’t that a form of election fraud, oops my bad, an -’illegitimate presidency’-?

  4. This is perhaps ultimately why the Republic is in as dire straits as it is today: in the First main election with parties-1800- the country almost tore itself apart due to the Federalist-(Jeffersonian)Democratic-Republican rancour. The situation was so bitter that several villages were actually segregated as the opposing side was driven out of town on a rail. Some of the ugliest mudslinging in American politics took place. And the election was far closer then anything we have had in recent years, INCLUDING 2000. In the end it came down to a handful of voters in New York well within the margin of error.

But, and this is a big but, when Adams lost, he quietly turned over the reigns of power to Jefferson (who he LOATHED at the time due to his encouraging his followers to make smears against his character) and WALKED OUT THE FRONT DOOR. THAT WAS IT. It was a peaceful transfer of power without a civil war. And Jefferson also changed: when he got the White House, he realized that many of the ideas he championed were infeasible on a large scale. So, he actually did something amazing: he undercut his personal feelings for the good of the country. He did this regarding the Barbary Pirates, the Louisiana Purchase, and the Bank of the US.

In addition, another thing that WOULD NOT happen is a small case from 1940 Norway: as King Haakon and his cabinet were fleeing Oslo with the treasury and hoping that there was some way to get in contact with the Norweigian Merchant Marine (the Fourth Largest at the time) to keep them from falling into the hands of Quisling and Hitler, they were being pursued. The German Air Attaché to Norway, Eberhardt Spiller, had been informed of this possibility and so snuck into the country 100 of the best Germany could offer: 100 Fallscrimjager (Paratroopers) who were loaded to the teeth and given a mission: Neutralize Haakon, his cabinet, and seize the treasury.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the only hope for the royal entourage was to keep moving just ahead of Spiller. However, Spiller’s men had “commandeered” several cars and a few buses to follow, and they were gaining on the group, leaving them no time to contact the rest of Norway or the Norwegian Merchant Marine still at sea, and time was running out.

In desperation, the Royal Guard made a gambit: as the government continued to flee, they would turn around, take up positions in the village of Midtskrogen, meet Spiller’s unit head on, and defeat it. This was in spite of the fact that Spiller outnumbered AND outgunned them. The Royal Guard knew this and turned to a suprising source for help: the local Gun Club. Scandinavia at the time was relatively gun-friendly (marksmanship was a school course in most of the Nordic Countries) and so there were plenty of civilian marksmen. And, as fate would have it, this included at that village. So, the Royal Guard went through the town waking up the Gun Club members and telling them that they were required in a cause of great importance to the nation.

So, outnumbered 80-100 and with only a short amount of time (some sources say 5 minutes) to get the newcomers adjusted to military weapons, the Norwegians set up barricades to force the Germans out of their vehicles and into battle. The Germans were armed to the teeth with modern weapons such as the MP40, MG38, and the like-all capable of spitting out a heavy hail of fire against their opponents- over their Kar98ks. The Norwegians only had rifles and three obsolete Colt M.29 HMGs. The encounter was brief but fierce, until Norwegian reinforcements called from a neighbouring village reversed the German numerical advantage. Eventually, Spiller was struck by fire and killed (one of two who suffered that fate), and the Germans retreated in disarray after taking a few dozen wounded, thus saving the Norwegian government. The Norwegians had three wounded.

But HERE is the kicker: The Norwegian government of the time was a minority cabinet. It had only gotten a slight plurality rather then a majority. So it took office under great controversy. What are the chances that all of those who confronted Spiller’s elite FJ at Midtskogen voted for it?

But yet, when the occasion was dire, they took up arms to defend the government that some of them doubtless voted against.

These two things, both the capitulation and moderation of 1800, and the Norwegian defence at Midtskogen in 1940, would probably NOT be possible in an American as bitterly polarized as it is today.

Both require the looser to ACCEPT the will of the Majority, and the winner to not be overbearing in victory by protecting the rights of the Loosers. And take a look at how far we have differed.

We have gotten to the point where neither side is willing to yield power to its opponents, where people will TURN TO VIOLENCE in order to support the “right” candidate. Regardless of the majority.

And this sickens me. And I have the slim suspicion that it is not only the Liberals doing this: there are plenty of voices from the Right talking about going to the barricades if Obama wins etc. etc. etc.

LISTEN! If Obama wins, he WILL be the President of the United States. OUR President. As much as we distrust him, he will lawfully remain our president unless he grievously violates his Oath of Office to the extent that he becomes tyrannical and destructive of our liberties, and thus necessitates his removal by any means necessary. The same as any politician being sworn in to the Oval Office.

But I still have hope. Why? Because Civic Virtue has not perished from this Earth yet, and I have enough faith in humanity left to believe that it can make a comeback.

  7. Wonderful history lesson Turtler. But I would like to see examples of this right side violence toward election defeats you claim is possible. While I have seen animosity in radio and print media expressed by” right wing” folks I cant recall any major physical hostility on display in my 53 years. If Im wrong fine, but please excuse my ignorance as to this recent history on the “rights” part. I just cant find anything to support your view on that point.
