  1. We went shooting last weekend - a fun time was had by all - it was the first time I did not have some bruise, pinch or soreness - so I guess I have become a shooter. Our shooting buddy had a new gun FNH pistol (five-seveN, I think) - a nice little gun - I might get it to carry. Love my Glock but it is heavy to tote around all day. Down sides of the FNH was it is a new caliber - we have tried to keep the handguns all 45 (except for the daughter’s first gun which is a 22) and it is over a thousand - which we do not have right now.

However there is another gun show this weekend - so we can check up there and see if anyone has one.

We took a couple of iffy guys - one went for his CCL (I don’t think he has done the final paperwork yet) and does not own a gun, the other is just a real, young geeky type - the Scouts were a another thing - they had been part of a Scout shoot - and you know kids (they’d blow their own hands off just to try something). Turned out the CCL guy fell in love with my M1 Carbine and the young geeky guy shot every gun there.

As I said - a good time was had by all.

  2. What? A five seveN? Those things are only made for killing cops and defeating body armor! They are pure EVIL! EEEEEVVVVIIILL!!!!

    LOL

No, actually they are a sweet little firearm. I still lean in the “.40+” direction though.

Glad to hear you are actively giving the ones that get the bad press a fair try.

  3. You have to grasp the guy who bought it - 22 years old, still living at home (although both he and my hubby got po’d when I made in the computer geek living in his mommies basement crack), and he loves toys - got the iphone, always grabs the newest computer things and of course now that he is into guns gets them too. So I have no idea why he went for this one (as money is sort of an issue with him) but he does get new toys often.

It was nice to try and as I said - the heft of it would make it a nice carry gun.

My hubby has a Kimber Ultra carry II - I like the size and heft but man I can not take the shooting - it feels like its blowing up in my hands.

Oh well, I shall keep looking.

  4. Wardmama, I’m very happy with my little SP101 revolver. With just a little work the trigger is as smooth as a S&W K-38, which is no small compliment. Ruger’s new LCR is even nicer, and weighs half as much. But both are revolvers. If you want a semi-automatic, take a look at the Ruger LCP, which is a 12 ounce .380. It’s tiny! But if you’re looking for a .45’s worth of power, keep looking. I’ve got the same mini Kimber your hubby has, and while it is a grand pistol, it’s quite hefty. [tip: for target shooting, try using it with a 10 round magazine. The extra weight eats some recoil and lowers the center of gravity. Sure, it looks funny, but it’s easier to shoot. You can find 15 round mags sometimes too.]

I’d suggest looking at some of the smaller .40 S&W guns. They give you .45 power in a 9mm size package. Kahr and Keltec make some small ones, as do others.

The trade off you get with little carry pistols is that they are very lively when you fire them. Light weight equals more recoil, and short barrels aren’t as steady on target as normal length ones.

  5. Yeah, that’s what it is, more recoil. I don’t do technical, I just know it is a bigger boom in my hands. Still looking - I’ve tried hefting a few and putting them into my carry purse. We shall see, I do believe when I find the right gun - I will know it.

I’ve tried the smaller Glocks, neither of us liked them - even though I loveyou my Glock 21.

I’ve tried a couple of other guns - including my hubby’s Kimber - (as you can see, he is a 1911 fan)he has two or three now. Not there yet.

I do not like revolvers - I want to insure that I have enough to blow anyone away or die trying. [My mom use to keep a .22 revolver by her bedside (wonder who got all the guns?!?) Oh well, there is a down-side to not begging for stuff - all the good stuff is gone.]

I was wrong - the gun show is next weekend - with so much on my plate (anyone want a pregnant kitty?she showed up Wed, still here. Oh bother) I am crazy busy right now. Although the good news is that I have only one more test (and possibly could finish by the end of the month). Then I have to decide what is next - job or more school. Yuck.
