Jay Silverheels says, “Are you sure about that, Kemosabe???”
I think the reason Indians are turning up here relates to the lax border controls in Russia. When I worked in UK immigration we used to get lots of Sri Lankans that had travelled to Europe via Moscow. They can’t get visas to fly direct to most European destinations because by and large they are deadbeats. So they get visas for Russia because A: The ruskies know that anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want to live in Russia.
B: The visas cost x roubles so they make a little on the deal.
The Indians are just trying to find an easy way into Europe. They would have been better off going to the Ukraine or Bulgaria!
So why in the name of little blue apples would anyone want to sneak into Russia? As LyndonB points out, Russia is a transit stop for people trying to sneak into Europe. And - AND - they were sneaking into Russia from Finland? Finland has been part of the European Community since 1995 (according to Wiki - eh?) By that argument, they were already IN Europe.
Can this be a case of ‘not familiar with the concept’ failure?
One can only wonder how they got to Finland in the first place. It’s not like one can climb the fence and jump over from India. I’m wondering if we’ll ever hear the rest of this story. Paul Harvey, leap on this one.
