The FBI/Police haven’t revealed how he obtained the 9mm handgun with the two extended clips. Latest reveals pulled from multiple sources and my own research:
- Kicked out of community college, because he was disruptive and clearly mentally unstable. Scared just about everyone in his classes including the instructors. Sent home and told not to return. Local police delivered a letter to the house stating he was not welcome back unless he had a psychiatric exam and was cleared as not being a danger to himself or others.
- Fellow students in High School state he was a dope smoking ultra left wing nut. Reports that he read Communist Manifesto’s and other subversive literature. He attended a Gifford event in 2007 and told his classmates that she was stupid and unintelligent.
- FBI is looking into if he was influenced by any white supremacist groups. Gifford was Jewish. Many of these groups push their propaganda online and hope some nut carries out retribution on their behalf. Typically, it’s not a member and would not have any direct ties to the organizations. Nothing points in this direct but the FBI’s checking just in case.
- The military rejected him, I think part of the application has a mental evaluation test but it could just be the recruiter saw he was nuttier than a fruitcake just as his classmates felt. He may have failed the drug test.
- They found writings in a safe in his parents house stating that Gifford was “My assassination” and that he “planned ahead”.
- Youtube videos and his comments show a clearly deranged mind, completely out of touch with reality. Signs of major Schizophrenia and psychosis.
- The one video posted a few days before the shooting is truly deranged. Previous videos only contained a black background and text that made little to no sense whatsoever. Talked about illegal currency no longer based on gold standard, hatred of “In God We Trust”, hatred of illiteracy but his own words have horrible grammar, other just plain incoherent ramblings. The one video in which he appears shows him wearing a brown hoodie, trash bag skirt hunched over and slowing walking toward an American flag. The background music is from Drowning Pool, “Let the bodies hit the floor” with such phrases as “Can’t take much more”, “Nothing wrong with me”, “Something’s got to give”, “Skin against skin blood and bone”, “You’re all by yourself but you’re not alone”, “Driven by hate consumed by fear”, “Let the bodies hit the floor” chorus. He turns to the camera and he’s wearing a burlap bag with a frowning face magic marker’d on it. He holds up the flag to show that it’s sliced up and then he sets fire to the flag and walks off camera. Extremely Creepy!
- Now they are showing he had some bizarre shrine in the backyard behind a camouflaged tent. Had a plastic skull, rotten oranges, candles, a bag of flowers, etc.
To say he was politically motivated is far from the truth, he was caught up in such weird thinking that no one will truly know what was going on inside his head. To a crazy person, it makes perfect sense, he’s right and everyone else is wrong. To use this guy as a political weapon is truly sick! To say, it’s the rhetoric and political posturing that set this guy off is completely wrong. To blame Palin is truly disgusting!
Maybe he did buy the gun, maybe he did pass the background check. AZ may not have had the information they needed to stop him. i.e. if he was committed there would have been a record that would have red flagged him. Maybe he just stole the weapon, bought the extended clips and ammo…
His parents bear a lot of the responsibility for this monster, they should have been paying attention and had him mentally evaluated and committed to a mental hospital. There is no indication that he received any sort of treatment whatsoever!

There are several ways to get a gun that do not involve actually going to a gun store and filling out the forms. But look at even what MJS posted - to me - what the shooter says is not any where as important as what he did. And most of what he did seems to be calculating and deceptive to set up - An Insanity Defense. And all this - he is leftwing he is rightwing - is just pure crappola - We do a disservice to conservatism but most importantly - it drags us to the left - that politics/government are the be all, end all. And since when did it become that our political beliefs become grounds for INSANITY?
These are truly dangerous grounds to be treading upon. And I believe truly intentional by some to shut down FREE SPEECH and POLITICAL DEBATE.
As to the parents - MJS - Thank the liberals for that - they have virtually shut down the Mental hospitals, deny parents any insight/info into their childs mental/emotional status and turned a lot of schools into free for all zones where predators and prey are locked in for 8 hours without any intervention or consequences at all.
HATE SPEECH and INTOLERANCE have become only what the Left deems is WRONG - which is most of the beliefs, ideals and values that would prevent tragedies like this. Honesty no longer permeates our MSM. Research, sources and truth have no value when they have an agenda to promote, support and push forward.
I see a very calculating person who for a number of years (whether self inflicted or not) felt like a loser - who wanted to ‘suicide by cop’ and take enough people with him to make the news alerts - The only mental illness in that is the desire to kill oneself - and given the hobbles the Left have enacted within the Educational and Mental Health systems - this is just another one of the ‘going postal’/’school shooters’ that are the result of the breakdown of family, education and society at large.

P.S. Who needs a 30 round clip—for a PISTOL?! In Vietnam, USMC, I had only a 20 round clip for my rifle.
Truth. Huge pistol magazines get in the way too. It takes less than a half second to drop the magazine from a Glock and slap in a fresh one. Depending on the model and caliber, the standard sized magazine holds a dozen or more cartridges.
