Indeed. RIP Mr. Vonnegut. Enjoyed your writings a great deal.
Didn’t agree with them most times, but always enjoyed.
Harrison Bergeron, particular favorite of mine.
sigh…
May he rest with Montana Wildhack.
Another icon of our past dies. Ah well. Like Heinlen and many others he did a lot to form our society and our thinking. No kidding, he had an extremely jaundiced view of war. He also taught an understanding that sometimes things are as they are - no effort will change them. This included the war he hated so much.
Why did he hate war? Obvious, he easily saw some of the worst of World War II, waste, misery and needless death. Because these things are always a part of war, or any other form of violence, we must choose our actions carefully. Without a doubt, there are times to go to war - all out, smash the other side without mercy war, but we must choose those times with extreme care. There’s a quote from Shakespeare that I’m trying to remember. Something about “If the King’s war be just.....” Anyone have the proper quote?
The RAF done a great job.
