I went to a gun show in Albany NY yesterday. Some interesting stuff there. I did see some buckshot loads that would make that new Mossberg, in .410, a fearsome gun to use. Yeah, they’re the Federal loads for the Taurus Judge. BTW, Winchester is getting in on the .410 buckshot/defense craze, in loading something that has three metal discs with #4 birdshot in a self-defense load. I was looking for a Marlin 1894C in .357 Magnum--and I found one, but the price made me realize that my wife would use it on me if I bought the thing.
About 6 yrs ago I worked in the gun dept of a local sporting goods store so I got to see a massive variety of manufacturers and their guns. The CZ rifles were (and are) an exceptional value. A real bang for the buck. And I agree about all this “tactical” crap. .22LR and .17 HMR tactical? HUH? What? I guess the other end of the spectrum would be concealed carry S&W 500s and MR Desert Eagles. Apparently illogic is not just a trait demonstrated by politicians.
So firearms makers are doing the same silly-assed fripperies as any other manufacturer, probably, as you said in the post, with the hopes of bringing more ladies.
But look at it this way. A young woman who is nervous enough for her own security to buy a pink plastic handgun is nonetheless almost certainly yet another vote on the side of the Second Amendment.
And if push comes to shove, I would rather see a lady with a pink-framed 9mm standing beside me, ‘between our homes and the wars desolation’, than a woman who has never shot anything, standing there with nothing but a kitchen knife and determination in her eyes.
PS, it is Massad Ayoob.
“...tactical” bolt rifle in .17 HMR.”
Huh? Since when is a cartridge with half the horsepower of a varmit round (.17 rem) considered “tactical”?
Tactical gopher weapon, I guess.
While I think that the guns in colors is a stupid concept I see a point - and I agree if it gets some women to even think about handling a gun - perhaps it is a good thing. But as someone (who was it?!?) said - to win people over - simply take someone shooting. My youngest was very hesitant, did not go into the range the first trip. Ran out the second, but the third time - shot and has been on the ‘correct’ side ever since.
I am not a competitive person - but I tell you there is just something about wanting to hit the target and hit it well that drives what little itty bitty piece of competitiveness I have in my body - still don’t know if I can shoot when it comes down to defense or dinner but at least now, I know I can shoot.
Yep, I agree. Just take ‘em shooting one time. As far as the rainbow colored guns are concerned, I can see where it MIGHT get some women interested, but if they pull it out in a non-immediate life or death situation (i.e. hands on the throat etc), will a pink pistol have the same immediate response that a standard pistol would have on the bad guy? Will he think it’s some sort of toy? I don’t know..... And how would you run a scientific study on this?
