  1. Long live the 7.62 FN-FAL and all it’s kin.  There are a lot of options I can think of immediately, I’m sure there are a lot more.  How about that cut down M-14 Springfield Armory came out with a few years ago?  M-60 on a swivel mount?  Then again, how about mounting a 7.62 Gatling on a swivel mount or even replacing the 50 Cal. with it?  Very handy when you want to shred a whole area.  The M-4 may have it’s uses, but when you need to reach out or get real penetration, you’d better have something serious.  We’re not worried about soldiers having to hump the thing all day through mud and snow, so why not use something heavier?

  2. I’m just speculating here, but I consider it fairly likely that the guys flying those things wouldn’t want Apaches if they could get them, more often than not. The thing that’s keeping them from being blown out of the sky appears to be sheer agility of the aircraft. The enemy calls them “mosquitos”. I live on the US Gulf Coast, where a few cattle die every year from *inhaling* too many mosquitos. Every try to swat a mosquito *when it’s airborne*? The damned things are harder to get than wasps, even.
*IF* that’s true, I can tell you exactly why they don’t get more and heavier firepower: because every ounce added is a little bit of agility taken away. A rapier fighter relies on quick, small motions to dodge incoming blows, often by fractions of an inch.
