  1. I actually kind of like it.  Good symbolism in the heights used.  I also like the idea of them making use of the tower and not having it just be a giant gravestone.

  2. Kinda humdrum although the glass works seem unique, I would prefer a more modern art sculpted tower made from the bones of those Al Quaeda martyred in action since 9/11, perhaps a work in progress to allow for future expansion.  skull

  3. If we have any Penn and Teller fans here I am with them on this one.Re-build the original as a in your face gesture nah-nah

  4. Why the worry about truck bombs. They tried that on the old WTC and it didn’t work. Just rebuild the old one and design it with Patriot missile launchers to take out pesky aircraft.

  5. I am with kingaljr and Christopher...make two towers that look identical to the old ones. Only build them stronger, with the idea of that kind of attack in mind.

...and the addition of anti-air batteries on the thing are a good idea too.

  6. Sorry, almost all modern and post-modern architecture looks sterile or outright ugly to me and leaves me cold.  I’m still mad as hell about the 9-11 mass murder, but frankly, I don’t miss those two mundane towers.

  7. Kinda ho-hum. The site needs something that speaks better, but, not being an architect, I have no idea. As long as the multi-culturalists keep their hands off.

  8. It’s a subliminal message in support of heroin use. Think about it.

  9. Anything other than that Apology to the terrorists piece os S**T that the libs proposed.

  10. "Something seems to be missing though. I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

    A second one?

It would be a very elegant 21st century structure.  In fact, I love it to pieces aleady.

  11. Yet another ugly piece of modern architecture. But so long as there is a frikking huge (about 20 stories by 30) american flag flying from the blimp-tether thing at the top I’m okay with it.

  12. After Liebeskind won the design competition, I made a “logical” assumption that the winning design, as is, would be the one erected at the site of the Twin Towers.

So, I’m at a loss to understand what happened after that.  Apparently, even Governor Pataki’s intervention in the Liebeskind-Childs squabble hasn’t been enough to solve the problem.

On the basis of the work they did in the mid to late 20th century--which I would rate as “bad” or “mundane” or “garbage"--I would never have engaged the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill to execute the design.

From where I sit, David Childs simply doesn’t understand that this is not about him.  (Was he part of the competition?  Is all this because his design was rejected?  Or is he an architectural philosopher-king who has given himself the right to overrule the committee’s decision?)

Were I his client, I’d have sat Childs down years ago and told him either to execute Liebeskind’s design as is, or else he and his firm are fired.  With all the bad publicity that that would entail for SO&M.

    End of problem.

  13. Ok, it does not move me - I just couldn’t put my finger on it and then . . .(to me) looks like someone stacked plastic bins inside each other and then stuck an antena on it. You know don’t these guys take in consideration the local ambience?

I vote with the rebuild the Twin Towers (todays construction, the 70s design) as a ‘in your face’ statement.

Not too against the anti-aircraft battery up there either.

Knew this was going to happen - once I heard all the garbage flowing around and the Hildabest wanting a ‘park’ just knew that the war to decide the rebuilding was going to be worse, longer and more costly than the war it’s destruction caused.
