Mumbai photographer: I wish I’d had a gun, not a camera. Armed police would not fire back.

  1. I read this last night on worldnetdaily.com. Same Belfast Telegraph article.

Just wondering, is Sebastian D’Souza any relation to Dinesh D’Souza?

BTW, the point is, if you are going to carry a firearm, be prepared to use it.

A bit of a caveat on that: if you are severely outgunned, like happened in 1997, the so-called North Hollywood shootout:

The North Hollywood shootout was an armed confrontation between two heavily-armed and armored bank robbers, Larry Eugene Phillips, Jr. and Emil Matasareanu, and patrol and SWAT officers of the Los Angeles Police Department in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California on February 28, 1997. It happened when responding patrol officers engaged Phillips and Matasareanu leaving a bank which the two men had just robbed. Ten officers and seven civilians sustained injuries before both robbers were killed.[2] Phillips and Matasareanu had robbed several banks prior to their attempt in North Hollywood and were notorious for their heavy armament, which included automatic rifles.

Local patrol officers at the time were typically armed with a 9mm or .38 Special pistol on their person, with some having a 12-gauge shotgun available in their cars. Phillips and Matasareanu carried fully automatic rifles, with ammunition capable of penetrating police body armor, and wore body armor of their own. Since the police handguns could not penetrate the bank robbers’ body armor, the patrol officers efforts were ineffective until they acquired weapons that could penetrate. SWAT arrived with weapons that could penetrate and also they appropriated several semi-automatic rifles from a nearby firearms dealer. The incident sparked debate on the appropriate firepower for patrol officers to have available in similar situations in the future.[3]

Kudos to that ‘nearby firearms dealer’. Note that if the gun-control crowd gets their way, there won’t be any such ‘nearby firearms dealer’. As I recall at the time, the dealer was very happy to cooperate. As I would be.

Okay, if severely outgunned, cower away. Just know that I’ll still consider you a coward for not even trying. Head shots guys. If you suspect body armor, head shots. Barring that, leg wounds will bring them down and probably allow a follow-up head shot.

What do they teach in schools these days?

  2. Superb post and clip peiper. You do what you can with what you’ve got. Cover and concealment are your friends, and a .22 to the head will normally convince your opponent that they’ve made a mistake. As Christopher just said:

BTW, the point is, if you are going to carry a firearm, be prepared to use it.

Indeed. ANYthing is better than nothing, and if you’re not prepared to protect the public, why in the hell are you armed?

  3. Besides, if 1 or 2 of the police opened up a can, the others would probably follow. It sounds to me like a huge case of “You do it first....”.

  4. Nice Basket of MP-5’s.
Want to end terrorism or at least reduce the Availability of Arms to Terrorists?
Make Machine Guns Legal In the US.
Goods flow to where the Money and Demand is.
I know that I sure would like to have a couple of those MP-5’s.
Would that cause an Increase of Violence in the US?
Not so sure. Run all the Purchases thru the NICS system.
Law abiding citizens would then have the means to resist Terrorists and Tyrants.
    Enemies foreign and Domestic.
Does anyone remember the Advertisement for Thompson’s, with the Rancher sitting
on his front Porch Hosing down some Cattle Rustlers?
