  1. Toughen up or lighten up folks.

It’s not like they had the thing in a bathtub taking a knife to its hydraulics.

P.C. Bullshit run amok.  Just what G.M. needs right now; a pack of lawyers picking over its carcass with some bogus bullshit liability cases.  ( Has anyone notified John Edwards about this travesty? )

  2. “They should never have run that commercial, and they shouldn’t run it again,” says Hodel, who says he and his wife were shocked when they saw it.

OMG, what a nation of sniveling, shocked little pussies we have become.  Where are the Americans that won WW2 or landed on the moon?  I’m hoping that a few of them still live here, cuz the pussies are going to be really fucked if they don’t.

  4. I don’t know ... I think the latest crop of ads is very violent. Suicidal machines in this one, some Valentine’s Day ad where cupid is shooting real arrows into people (no blood tho), another one with a herd of people going off a cliff, several more violent and/or really harsh themed ads during the superbowel. Even that Snickers ad had the 2 guys hurting themselves to reaffirm their hetero manhood. Has humor become so crass that this is necessary to make people laugh (America’s Funniest Home Videos show is nothing but people getting hurt doing stupid thimgs, Jackass is the same, etc), or are we being even further enured to violence for some reason? Perhaps the latest generation of consumers can’t understand anything else, having been raised on mega-violent video games.

Rudebadger, those generations of Americans saw nothing but advertisements that featured a more perfect world, enabled by using whatever the product was. Ads like this would never have existed in 1941-1970; and never run if they did. Go look at Lileks website for some ads from back then. They were innocent. Noxema’s ads of the mid-60s caused a scandal by associating a clean shave with a naked blonde!

  5. Fun times we’ve got here.  Dumb, lowest common denominator ads, hypersensitive tender plants getting the vapors, gawd I wish I could find it funny.  I’m still trying to figure out why graphic violence is considered family fare, while even a hint of graphic sex between consenting adults isn’t.

  6. Another bright display of Liberal Thinking. Blaming Corporate America (how convenient)and making it responsible for the most coward way to elude responsibility, the ultimate paradigm of the Liberal culture. Socialists actually need dysfunctional people to be eliminated, since they see them as defective parts of the collective machine. Individuals, per se, are unimportant. Down the road, in a perfectly established Liberal utopia, those defective humans would be “terminated” if they don’t decide to “terminate” themselves.
