  1. Another good program is Lashback.  It does about the same thing that Mailwasher Pro does.  It sends a email back sying you want to get off the mailing list.  It works about of the time.  It is also free. And also they have free blacklists for you to download.
You can find it at http://lashback.com.
Also the company is located in downtown St. Louis.

  2. I have no clue as to what my dear hubby has done/installed/unleashed on our computers but it works - now that it is the holiday, getting a few more on my yahoo account, but on the whole no more virus ridden garbage, no more worthless trash mail and haven’t had a collapse of the system in a long time. This particular live-in computer geek is well worth it, especially since I have no clue at all about this horrid little machine and what makes it keep going.

  3. Mailwasher Pro is a kick ass and take names program.  If anything it might be a little too aggressive if you let it.

  4. Been using MailWasher Pro for years now. Up until recently, it worked great and did the bounce. Then all of a sudden Cox decided that it didn’t like bouncing those junk e-mails back. (Wonder where their filters were during that time?) Suddenlink just bought out Cox and are in the process of rolling everything over. Guess it’s time to try to reset the bounce and see what happens. I agree with you, Skipper, it’s the best $37 I’ve spent in a while. wink

  5. Almost half of my junk mail (200,000 per month in my second filter alone) is all you bounce back folk sending notices to me because spamers are smart enough to fake the return address to my domain. It does sound like such a good idea just wish it worked.

  6. Because so much spam has forged addresses in the headers it’s pointless to send a reply.  In those rare cases where it reaches the spammer he just adds your address to a “gold” list he resells to other spammers and you get even more spam.

The only active response you should take is to forward the offending mail to the postmaster@ or abuse@ address of the originating ISP.  After the ISP gets enough complaints about the sender to get annoyed at all the spam in their inboxes they cancel the account.
