Allan, when I see stuff like this and I try to figure it out (unsuccessfully), it reminds me of something a friend told me once: “Insanity doesn’t need a reason.”
AGT, it would appear your friend is right. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that much will happen - at least in any massive sort of way. There will be the usual condemnations, declarations, sanctions, UN platitudes and hand wringing. Maybe some little retaliations. But in the end more people will have died, the tension will still be there and everyone will return to the status quo - until the next time.
I’m beginning to think along the lines of OCM - nothing changes. Unless it escalates in some drastic form. Israel has ERW’s.

Theories abound as to why suicide bombers are so popular. My favorite is the one where only wealthy men can afford wives, and the very wealthy have many wives. These young men can’t afford a wife, therefore they can’t get their rocks off with something human other than themselves. So, add to this pent up sexual frustration the promise of 72 virgins if they do what the “spiritual leaders” say. The problem is not the palestinians, the problem is their leadership.
Although I’d personally like to see Israel go apeshit all over palestine.
OCM, in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, religion plays only a minor role. This bit of history sums it up very nicely:
