  1. Based on past years numbers, there’s a definite increase, but it’s not insanely increased, even comparing 1999 to 2009.  It is a good trend to see though.

I take this as a good sign that more Americans are becoming comfortable with their 2nd Amendment inalienable right and will secure that right and others, and the liberties that flow from same for years to come.  This makes me smile, as I think they may have woken up to the fact that neither of the big two parties is interested in securing those rights and freedoms for The People, and the only ones who CAN are The People themselves, both individually and as the citizenry of these United States of America.

Obama’s presidency was, and is only a catalyst, a footnote at best.

  2. I most assuredly keep my weapons clean and lubed. I have a number of them from pre last century, and they are as sweet as anything new, short of the REALLY high dollar new gee-whiz stuff.

  3. I recall when the Brady Bunch got a mess of laws passed. I’d read that the Brady Law caused more firearms to be bought in a shorter timeframe than in the entire history of the country.

Heh. I knew a firearms dealer who said the countries dealers were considering sending Sarah Brady a thank you note. The entire firearms system was cleaned out - from factory, to warehouse, to distributor, to wholesaler, to dealer. There wasn’t a single firearm left in the whole product pipe.

O’BuggerBoy has apparently done Brady one better.

I noticed today that the shelves in Walmart for metallic cartridges was damned near bare. The guy behind the counter said they were instituting a 2-box max for purchases.

  4. Even .22 long rifle are off the shelf. People are stocking up and practicing, but costs dictate they use the lower cost alternative.
I crunched the numbers. November and December saw sales nearly double the average of sales in the BBS era. The average is 798416.54, the weighted average is 774424.56.
I also looked at trends. December is the biggest sales month, dads get guns for the kids, spouses for spouses etc. October is the second with the beginning of hunting season. In some ways this could be used to account for the spike after the election, but we know the situation.
I would like to see data on dollars spent. That would be a bigger key. In years past, the December sales were often starter guns, Juniors first rifle is often the old Marlin, or the Ruger 10-22, both solid dependable guns, but neither is a high cost item either.
The guns I see selling are the bigger ticket items, the AR-15, the AK-47. At three to six times the money, it would tell a amazing tale.

  5. Yep. Our local Wally-world stocks ammo shelves at 0700 on Wednesday morning. By 0730-0800 it’s all gone. Poof! My local gunstore much the same. .223, .308, 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, 9mm, .45 ACP? Good luck beating the shoppers. If you have something a bit more “unusual” you’ve got a better chance of getting some ammo.
