So what would guarantee that the ‘fair tax’ would remain fair? All it takes is for some dweebees sitting down and writing some more tax legislation.
Kirk, no doubt; just look at the “simplified” IRA situation. From “Did you earn $2000? Then you can put up to $2000 into an IRA. Period” to the convoluted piece of crap we have now with earnings limits, Roths, blah blah blah.
But, laws can be written to be pretty bullet proof, AND, a Fair Tax would be popular enough that no Pol worth his graft would dare screw with it.
Personally, I am still settling out my parents’ estate and I gotta tell you, if you don’t keep on top of things like a fly on poop, the hassle and Bee frickin’ Ess you have to go through PURELY to satisfy arbitrary tax rules is just sick sick sick.
Here in Washington State, we have no income tax. We have sales and excise taxes that vary by county and what you buy (And don’t even get me started on the lying POS King County Executive Ron “Only the people who use the stadiums will pay for the stadiums, so here is a tax increase on ALL restaurant food, hotel rooms and car rentals in King County” Sims.)
This is very like the Fair Tax proposal. On April 15, as far as the State of Washington goes, it is just another day in early spring. Having lived under a similar situation, I support the Fair Tax.
I am for either a Fair or Flat Tax - my hubby doesn’t like the percentage and we both are like (dubious, shall we say that any and all pols won’t turn this into an abomination such as Income Tax and the IRS have become).
Something needs to be done, but the ‘representatives’ in DC seem more interested in increasing taxes not cutting them, making them fair or even streamlining the system.
It is time to revolute again - Taxation without Representation.
