I was a liberal when the standard for liberalism was the Declaration of Independence and the words: “WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness -”.  Today, I’m not a liberal.  There’s nothing free or open minded about Liberals today.  If you dare to disagree with one, you’ll be shouted down with ad hominem attacks.  How sad.  It’s ironic that Liberals screwed up so badly that even they won’t call themselves liberal any more.  Now they call themselves Progressives.  Progressing towards what?  The citizens of 1984 certainly thought they were making progress as they perfected New Speak.

   In a time increasingly marked by intolerance, it may be legitimate to ask how a traditional values/faith based community will deal with people who may have differing faith or values, but the nasty mockery of the interview is rude and uncalled for.  Apparently, any community of faith or values must prove its innocence or be prejudged guilty of bigotry. Prejudice is contempt prior to investigtion.

   Oh well, if it bleeds, it leads.  If it’s not bleeding when you get there, get out a knife.

9. DrJ: Ain’t it the Truth? You used to be able to count on Liberal support in Freedom of Speech issues.

   It was pointed out to me that the 1984-like Speech Codes on campuses are a symptom of desperation—they are aware of being isolated and not longer having a monopoly on the creation of ideas.

   Think of Hitler’s bunker in the last days of WW2.  All information was lies and distortions and fantasy. Anything else was crushed.  These behaviors are a symptom of awareness of impending doom.
